I wonder if the 2019s are going to come from the Factory with the TSB that is in use right now to correct for the issue.

Is this still what you think is going on?

I've driven several 2018 Tacoma's. In my opinion, they all exhibit somewhat of a whine sound from ~50-60mph. And objectively, it's about the same "loudness" in all Tacoma's. Same pitch/tone. And yes, definitely louder and more noticeable than other vehicles. And I think this is what a lot of people here are upset about.

I also think this is what Toyota is calling "normal" (and I'm conceding that it's normal, too-- strong/tight gearing). This is the "resonance" that the tsb addresses. And I can understand how the new "dynamic dampeners" (cab mounts) and c-pillar sound deadener might make a difference for the better for those particularly sensitive to the noise.

That said, some (me included) are experiencing an additional noise that is much more noticeable than what I describe above. It literally sounds like you're flipping a switch at 58mph (or 57 or 61) resulting in a much louder chirp/kazoo sound. I think this additional sound is getting lumped in with what I've described above, by dealers in particular, but also *some* observers of this thread.

Edit: I'm not suggesting anyone is complaining without merit. Not in the least. If stuff bothers you and is unacceptable, no judgement here. I'm genuinely trying to add something of value here. That's it.

I don’t quite understand this being solely resonance, if so, then why doesn’t it show up right away? Mine didn’t start howling until about 1200 miles in. Before that it was quiet. It slowly got louder and in a broader range, I traded it soon after. I hate that this is still ongoing of an issue.

Not sure, I drove a 2016 sport and a 2016 OR, both of those made the same noise but the 2016 OR was considerably louder than my truck. I have not had the TSB done but I imagine it would help.

    One and done.
On the first visit to my local Toyota dealership with 6,200 miles on the odometer I told them that my truck was howling at 50 to 60 mph and that the rear differential was also leaking.
They replaced the rear leaf springs, installed dampers and replaced the rear differential gasket.

The howling is gone....at least for now.

An attempt to get rid of the howling noise/resonance with a clamp and cheap overload helpers on the leafs didn’t help:

New rear leaf springs have an additional short section of leaf at bottom toward the front.

I installed an Xrunner rear sway bar on my 2018 OR with 6Mt and the whining almost disappeared. I figure the sway bar acts as a dampener on the vibrations somehow.

The X-runner sway bar is NOT bolt on. However you can get a Hellwig on that is bolt on.

My 2018 came with the same springs and the small spring plate under the most forward clamp.

Mine started around 1100-1200 miles as well. Something is causing this and I’ve noticed post TSB that mine is either getting louder or perhaps my supersonic mutant hearing (read, I actually don’t hear well at all) is picking it up.

It is what's going on. I wrote a big long dissertation on it probably 100 pages back lol. It's simply a resonance issue. Unfortunately those are the hardest to fix for anyone, even Toyota. If it bothers the driver, get the TSB. If it bothers you too much, take the hit and trade it. If you don't want to take the hit, patiently keep taking it back until you can lemon law ot.
    Those are your choices.

I have fought resonance noise on several machines I designed over the years and it's a real bitch.
The simple explanation for the delay is wear. Everything is super tight when new and after a few thousand miles bushings, shocks and springs and joints get settled in. That's when the noise usually starts.

This is basically what it boils down to. Either get the fix, and if the fix is not a fix enough, keep going back and LL it if it bothers you that bad. Mine is frustrating but not to the point of LL’ing it. There is nothing else out there at this time that I want more. I do think Toyota needs to figure this out sooner than later because it’s irritating as crap. Another issue is Toyota is refusing to apply the fix to other trims that clearly have the noise. There is no sense in that.

FWIW, I brought my taco in for the whine. The dealership opened up the rear diff and found metal shavings. They replaced the 3rd gear and I haven’t heard a whine since. Of course I only have about 1k on the fix so time will tell.

Still feel that way, a different body mount damper and a piece of foam significantly reduced my whine. Its faint enough that I consider it as background noise. I dont think about it, and its like tire or wind noise to me now. Mine was done in Feb so I have some miles on it.

I have a long bed so it was just the mount and foam pad, no springs.

Foam pad... are you talking about the c-pillar sound deadener in the cab? Or something else?

Yeah, the c pillar deadener. It might not be foam pad as the tsb made it sound at first. I vaguely remember others buying the parts themselves and it was more of a adhesive strip.

Haven't kept up with this thread after my work was done.

Same here, but first they did the TSB and THEY said that didn't stop the whine that my truck had. So far it's still quiet about 1K miles after.

Wow, go figure. Developing an additional noise over the last few days in the rear end. From about 20/25 until 55, where the original noise comes into play, I am getting an additional whine that is consistent and the throttle position doesn't seem to affect it's pitch... The joys of a 3rd Gen.
