Bah, maybe it is just mine. It’s not in my head, it’s quite noticeable through the ebrake. Easy fix for me I guess, just stop touching it. Hopefully the TSB fixes it, I’ll find out tonight.

The TSB fixed it about 80%. I can still hear it a little, but the feeling in the emergency brake is gone. Good enough for me

You really need to throw your rays and wildpeaks on and see how it goes. Then lift if needed.

I'm still good on mine. I have about as many miles on my truck post TSB as pre TSB, 16k and about 16k . I had a bad howl on decel 60-40 only. I had the howl with my wildpeaks and the stock tires. Post TSB has been all wildpeaks so while they may mask some noise, they don't strike me as any louder than the stock tires, they can't be masking the sound too much if at all as I clearly don't hear anything now. And having the same tires pre and post TSB I can eliminate that as a mask for the noise, if there is still one. I claimed after the repair it was 90% fixed, as there still was driveline noise, but I never viewed it as anything unusual. Just normal rear drive noises.

Just trying to provide some data for those still struggling. I've posted this before, but I honestly don't even think about it now until I see this thread pop up.

I know. I was thinking if I did then they would just blame my tires. These things are STILL sitting in my garage.

I changed the gears 3 times (4.88’s) and still get the whine. I’m going to have the TSB completed next month when they fix the front cover leak. I would use caution spending the money on aftermarket gears to fix the whine. That being said I really enjoy the 4.88’s as far as drivability.

Yes. I thought it must be the gears. My installer says he has installed several and some whine and some don’t. He was cool enough to try a few sets because he swapped some out before and it fixed it. The current ones seem to be the quietest, the second set were really loud. If I can do the TSB and it helps that would be awesome.

Mine, so far, is quiet. In fact, I’ve had no issues at all. What does the TSB do?

Oh yes! I would have them on but have been battling a series of illnesses. As soon as I feel human enough to get out, I’m getting the howl looked at again and will have them mount my tires up on the Rays.

I just started noticing this howl when I'm decelerating between 60-55 MPH. This occurs when I'm feathering the peddle, or engine braking, it doesn't occur when using the brake pedal. I'm curious if I take this into a dealership will they attempt to blame this on my rear lift components, or is there no way they could link the two? Also is this just a noise, or is there any potential damage that could occur with this issue? Before I bother taking it in to a dealer, I'll want to remove the lift, unless it's just an annoying noise, then I won't bother.

You have a TRD so the TSB applies to you. If your dealer is so so then you should be fine. This is a pretty common issue and Toyota opened up the TSB to 2018 TRDs a while ago.

It’s just an annoying noise depending how bad yours is. Parts are easy to install. Most of the time it helps at least a bit.

So if I just postpone until my next 5k service (4K miles from now), I'm not running the risk of destroying anything? lol.

    BTW thaks for the reply.

You shouldn’t be if it’s the same howl as the rest of us have (sounds like it is). If you have the time it wouldn’t hurt getting it in sooner to be documented. Right now the TSB is only for double cab TRDs pretty much. Guys like me had to pay for the TSB parts and I still have the howl ha Annoying to say the least.

Yeah, my Sport howls like a Howler monkey. I was considering purchasing some of the parts (not the springs) and replacing/installing them, but I'm just not sure about the validity of the fix for this issue.
