I’m currently at the dealership having my 2020 checked out. It whines more than my 2018 :bananadead:

So the dealer acknowledged the whining in my 2020 but said there was no fix from Toyota. They are ordering me new rear drums though.

What I thought was the rear diff noise turned out to be the A/C compressor. Noise went away when the A/C turned off!

Good news, you still have a problem....mine is pretty silent. I only hear the clutch when it turns off and on when I in a drive thru or outside the car. It is quiet otherwise.

Got to page 239. Ran out of gas. Still have more than an elapsed year of posts to go!! Wow.

I saw a few people got regeared.....seemed like one guy it did NOT help.

How many folks went 4.88 or 5.29 (or other ratio) did the noise remain?

Did you mean they added the weight to their 280Z vehicles in 1975, or did they add that to the older 240Z vehicles a few years later in 1975?

I think it was just cars coming out of the factory at the time and not retrofitted, so I supposed it would've been 260z's

Also, I have opened a new case with corporate. I am sure they will tell me to pound sand at the end of all of it, but records and noise are getting created.

What is the number to open a case for this? I will definitely call them about my 2020 doing this.

EVERYONE with a rear diff howl... PLEASE open a case with Toyota. For all of you guys that already have, thanks!

When they get this problem fixed, I will get another Tacoma! I got a buddy that will get one, too!

Everyone has the howl, whether they want to admit it, simply can't hear it for whatever reason, or the howl hasn't had a chance to develop yet (truck too new). The statistics alone would point to it being an NVH design issue.

If someone genuinely had a truck without it, then I would say they have the unicorn Tacoma, or their mods eliminated the noise by happenstance.

Regardless, yes its annoying, and yes Toyota should do more to isolate the noise for those who are complaining about it.

I haven’t really said anything in this thread, but my prior SR5 and my current OR have had a very minimal sound. It shows up around 45-50 mph and sounds like an old phone ringing on acceleration in a very tight speed band. I can also hear it on deceleration around the same point where it sounds more like a low hum. Since it is momentary and minimal, I accept it as sounds the truck makes. I have heard far worse in lesser vehicles. However, I certainly sympathize with those who have a more persistent sound across a broader spectrum. I know it would drive me nuts.

I bet you haven’t heard a truck with a bad howl yet. Sure there are different degrees of “diff noise”. I’d agree with that statement. But many trucks have a horrible howl.

No surprise here, but corporate called back after reaching out to the regional group and will not authorize further inspection or repair....... ugh, full volume and speeding everywhere I go now
