I would get it documented just in case, and in hopes that with enough documented complaints they’ll figure out how to stop it. I say this selfishly in hopes of them fixing it so I can get another one. :) I had the bed mat and it did no good but I did enjoy the mat. The OEM one is pretty good in my opinion. Best of luck to you.

My 2019 does not have the dynamic cab mounts, which are part of the TSB, so no, my truck does not have the TSB.

Bringing it up to the dealer next time you are in couldn't hurt, but I would advise against having the dealer techs try and "fix" it, because there is no fix -- it's an NVH design issue.

Finally, the bed mat helped reduce the speed range of the howl on my truck from 50-60 to around 54-58 mph. I can still hear a tiny bit from 50-53, but it's more tolerable now. It also helped cut down on the deceleration vibes from 25-20 mph due to the added weight in the back. Awesome investment for sure

I'm surprised they didn't have TSB done from factory if it was already an issue in 2016-2017 . I've been hearing about toyota reliability since I was born, and my friend doesn't have any issues with his 2018 OR. I waited a year to see how his would hold up. This is the first vehicle I've ever bought new and I figured I couldn't go wrong but I've already had several issues. From day one the hood was bouncing around (fixed with some sealant), windshield cracked a month in from a mysterious rock (when I wasn't even following anyone), dash rattle now that it's cold (fixed with felt tape between windshield and dash, fingers crossed)... Maybe I'm just unlucky but I digress because I still love this thing and I'm hopelessly addicted... can't wait to add Bed Mat to my bio :D

I'll add something that I think has not been said, maybe but I didn't read the whole thread...This truck is poorly insulated for noise. I also own a 2004 Lexus GX470. That truck makes all kinds of noises, BUT, with the windows up, cannot hear ANYTHING. It is a beautiful thing and I bet much less people would complain if the truck was insulated better. Just a thought.

Drive a 1st or 2nd Gen Tacoma and then get back in a 3rd, it is much quieter.

I don't doubt you there. I've owned a bunch of 3rd and 4th 4runners, they were on par with the 3rd Tacoma. The Lexus is just in a different league.

Agreed - they are vastly more refined. I started in them in 87. I would say some things are a mixed bag, but there is no denying that they are far more refined. Hope you are well, my friend.

Driving my old 2nd Gen to the Dealer and getting in the 3rd felt like getting into a Cadillac as far as noise was concerned. Doing ok, hope things are well for you too brother.

Agreed. I must admit I miss the 4.0 (that we all griped about when we had it because it didn’t have enough power - lol) but the 3rd gen has come a long ways. I also think the Ranger and other offerings will push Toyota and we will all benefit from it. Every time I think I’m going to buy another truck not named Tacoma I stop because there is really nothing out there that I like more. I might just hold out and get an Army green OR next summer.

Another thing I’d mention on this thread is that we are literally the one percenters of truck enthusiasts by virtue of being on this forum. Most folks just drive their trucks and don’t notice a lot of the things that we notice. I still hated that howl and unfortunately had a lot of other issues with mine, but any manufacturer can turn out a bad one every now and then. I look for the Taco to continue to get better sooner than later.

    Doing well, brother.

The Tacoma has quirks and annoyances for sure but I honestly don't believe there is a better truck available out there. I have owned all 3 Generations over the past 20 years and the most expensive thing that broke was the Power Steering Pump on my 1st Gen.

It's all relative I suppose. I've owned the 1st and 2nd gen Tacos and can definitely say my 3rd gen is the quietest by a long shot. In fact, I think that's part of the problem -- it's so quiet that the rear end whine sticks out like a sore thumb!

Maybe that's the real solution to all of this.... removing the noise insulation lol. :D

We have different references/experience. You think the Taco sounds great as far as noise, I think it could be better. Between Taco and Lexus the interior noise difference is immense.

With that said the Taco is a pick up truck. Pick ups are not know for being quiet. They get shit done. They are a tool not a luxury sports car. I love my Tacoma and wouldn't trade it...except for a cyber truck.

I mean you're comparing a luxury / performance plan with a working man's truck. I was going to like your post but then you mentioned the Cyber truck so, no likes for you :duel:

    Bed Mat
Any updates for the people with 2019-2020s? Also bed mat didn't change a thing for me but I do like it @ryan760 lol. Starting to hear the same noise at lower speeds now ~30mph. God I can't UNHEAR it. Also looking at the cab mounts it doesn't look like what the TSB looks like at all. I'm still convinced it's harmonics but I don't want the dealership to rip through my truck and break clips etc...

Whats the process to open a case with Toyota? My local dealer put zero effort into trouble shooting my 2020 and dismissed my concerns.
