I have a bone stock 2020 trd off-road 6mt and I have some very high pitched whine around 50-60mph. It’s not loud, if you have the radio on you’ll never hear it. My 08 FJ with 246k miles doesn’t and has never whined.

I suggest trying 75W-90, 75W-110 or 75W-140 if you reside in a warm location

If you read thru this thread you will find many have tried changing to a different viscosity or bottles of additives and they did nothing.

Agreed. The dealer put 75x140 in mine while we waited 6 weeks for a new diff as a test case. It did not reduce the howl at all. Once the new diff was installed with 75x140 it's been quiet for 60 k. Of note, I live in the Northeast, so cold climate did not cause a problem with the heavy oil.

Haha that was on a straight road with no hills. SO much worse on rolling hills. You didn't have yours checked out did you? I forget

Nope. I will probably bring it up next time I'm in just to see if they can do something about the TSB. My truck doesn't appear to have it... but 2019s are technically not included in the TSB. I'll see what they can do.

Yeah I'm anxious to see what they're gonna do, seeing how so many people had it handled in so many different ways. I don't even know what the best case scenario is at this point. Monday's the day

Yeah if it's in full noise mode, I agree viscosity not going to change much. But for the borderline and before cases it just may help lessen or prevent.

New to this board. Just bought a 2019 TRD Sport with 8000 miles on it. It replaced my 99 4Runner Limited which I put ALOT of work into. That thing was my baby (sniff) ANYWAYS, I've read this entire thread thread because I noticed a noise and seeing how prevalent this problem is, I am somewhat concerned. My noise occurs almost exclusively on deceleration, whether it be hard or light. As soon as I let off the gas it makes the noise, which sounds like tire road noise. Also, it doesn't make the noise when I first start off in the morning probably because the oil is thicker at this time. To me, this points to gear backlash. If this was an older truck and this diff problem wasn't so prevalent, I would be looking at the Ujoints first because it only does it when the drivetrain is unloaded. I just don't see how it can be a vibration, at least not on my truck. Maybe this is how it starts. So I bought some Redline Shockproof oil. Says it and I quote "The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throw off and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90." I think this is just what the doctor ordered. I am putting it in today and I will report back. At $62 a gal, I sure hope it works.

Before I bought my 2020 OR DCSB auto,I test drove a 2020 Sport DCSB MT.Man that thing had a very noticable whine in the rear end. That was before I have been on these forums and didn't know the issue existed. I ended up buying my OR in mid November and have been a daily reader.A couple weeks back I was on a very smooth quiet stretch of pavement and thought I could hear a very slight rear end whine, maybe paranoid. But since then I discovered the cure for the lca whistle,my truck only had 4 plugs in it,so I taped over the other 2 holes, and now all is quiet.Maybe my rear end noise was not the rear end at all.Fingers crossed.
