You bet. I got it years ago.

Helped a little. 80k and the howl is still there for me. Just replaced the fluid with amsoil severe gear oil. Looked much better then the last time I replaced it.

Not afraid of failure at this point. Just annoying.

I’ve been using it since about ~20k miles.

The howl has diminished somewhat over the last 50k miles so I’m not sure if it’s the oil or wearing in of the gears.

Howl is still there but people don’t point it out to me as much.

Did Toyota cover the warranty work for installing the dynamic damper?

For a 3rd gen Tacoma? Most importantly did the dynamic dampener help at all, they go for about 100 each online.

2022 DCSB. I had a canopy and roof rack installed at 500 miles. Howling started at 2000 miles and got progressively louder. Took it to Phillips Toyota in Leesburg, FL at 6800 miles for a service and to have them check out the howling. Before they even took it back to the shop, the service manager informed me that all 3rd gens howl on decel. Master technician stated it was probably the roof rack. Service manager would not test my diff fluid when requested, and stated since all the Tacomas howl, he would not be investigating further. Needless to say, I was absolutely fuming after this interaction. He told me to take the accessories off and come back if it still howls. Idk how he could say they all howl and also blame my roof rack.

Went to a different dealer today for my next service (currently sitting just under 13k miles) and asked them to check into the same issue, as the truck had become punchy coming on and off the throttle, especially in stop and go traffic. Master tech drove it for less than 5 minutes and stated it needs a new rear diff. Just as I had started to tune out the howl. Imagine that. Will report back.

My dad had the rear diff rebuilt in his 2020 recently due to the howl (under warranty). He claims the howl is gone.
I thought they would swap out the entire axle, but it appeared that they split the case and rebuilt it.

I will hear from the dealer about parts ETA come Monday so I'll ask more about the attack plan then and what exactly they're going to be replacing. I was so expecting them to give me the same BS that Phillips Toyota had that I didn't stop to ask a bunch of questions lol.

Already have my truck back. It was finished yesterday afternoon. They slammed a whole new rear diff assembly in the truck. It's so quiet now. I can actually hear my tires again instead of the terrible howling. The service writer showed me a picture that the technician took of the fluid from the old rear diff. It was like black, spiky sludge. Hopefully the new assembly holds up. I had a much better experience at this dealer than the previous one. Service writer couldn't believe that I was turned away.

I recently installed the body mount dampers on mine that are part of the tsb. In my case I havent noticed any difference at all. I feel that I wasted $200. It might possibly vary from truck to truck which area is causing it since they also replace the leaf springs also with the tsb.

My 2021 Tacoma sr5 goes in for rear differential replacement next week due to rear end howl. 4600 miles. Had howl since new basically. Has this fixed the problem for most of you?

My experience is it made it much worse but I’m pretty sure I got a rebuild.

I also have 80k loud but trouble free miles on that diff.

Howl seems to come and go now with the temps. I can hear it all winter and it diminishes some during the summer months.

I’ve been using amsoil severe gear oil for most of the time I’ve owned this truck and it seems to help.

Hope you get a quiet diff! There are numerous people on here who have.

The tsb im aware of replaces the leaf springs and adds dampers to the rear cab mounts for this issue. Tsb 0013-18
Mine howled from day 1 on my way home and is still howling at 71k miles.
