Nope. My truck had 1 mile on it when I bought it. When they replaced my differential, my truck only had about 1 mile more on the odometer when I picked it up.

I would get to a dealer asap! There was a fellow TW member that had leaking differential issues, and she ended up stranded....

Maybe it's just the angle in the first pic, but that looks like a lot of pinion angle. Looks inline with the driveshaft slope.

I'm trying to understand the noise to see if its what I have. I can hear a noise that sounds like someone blowing over a coke bottle when the windows are down. Sounds like its coming from the front....maybe the LCA noise? Thing is, it sounds like the noise in the video.

So does it sound similar or is it totally different sounding and coming from the rear? Cant say that I hear it towards the back. Truck will be going in for the 10k service soon and if I have this rear diff issue I'd like to at least get it on paper with the dealer.

I haven't had the truck in for any of the TSB's yet....I have the tranny issues too, just been too busy this summer with work.

My guess is most people don't know what the noise is. ? How distinct is it?

Does it go away when you let off the throttle and then come on as soon as you push the gas again (feather the throttle at the target noise mph range)? If it does it isn't anything related to airflow over any part of the truck.

What a f'ing disaster. Take that shit back again and don't drive it. Tell them they need to tow it unless they plan on replacing it again without seeing it because there is no way in hell you are driving a brand new differential with low fluid.

Yeah i don't mention anything about online. I feel bad too for the people that live in an area with only one dealer, thankfully I live in an area with about 5-6 just on my way to and from work.

First dealership wasn't interested in looking at the issue or even believing there was an issue with a new Tacoma.

Second dealership I'm taking it to now was a lot different on the phone. I just described it as howling from the rear at a certain speed and the guy said "Uh oh. Let me get you in immediately." I wonder if this isn't their first....

Can't imagine if I were stuck with the first dealership as my only option.

Good news that a real fix is being worked! Weird that you heard it in a brand new truck... but I guess 50 miles, 5k miles, who's counting?

This is huge in my book! Someone from Toyota admitting they know it is a problem, and that they are working on a fix!? Hell yes!

I'll add this to the conversation...

Cell phones make really handy incognito voice recorders. In most states it's legal to record a conversation as long as you are a party to the conversation and it's not required that you even disclose that it's being recorded. It could come in handy to have the service writer, service manager, regional rep, etc. on the record confirming there is a problem, denying that there have been any other reports of a problem, etc.

Without getting specific, I'll say that I have quite a few of those conversations on file just in case.

That works too. I like the phone because so many of my damning conversations happen outside of the truck and in someone's office or work station.
