I'm at Toyota now. Getting it driven in a few minutes. Also going to tell them about the hood and squeaky leafs

It's crowded and late so I don't know what they are going to say

So several people told me to schedule an appointment with the foreman of the shop to drive it with him.... They tell me to call the appointment office and they don't know his schedule. So they keep telling me to call the office when I'm here in the damned dealership, in person. Some nice front desk lady is finding him to personally get his hours.

    Ughh

Oh yeah, they took the truck back at 4pm and then told me they wouldn't even drive it with me today. They told me that at 4:15pm

I have an appointment on Wednesday at 8am for a drive with the shop foreman. That's what the service writers wanted to diagnose conditions with the truck. 8am isn't the best time to drive on the freeways around here, but it will have to work. I doubt they will keep the truck because they can't fix the hood, rear diff, or leaf springs without the proper parts.

Toyota corporate is making me take it back to the dealer for round 2. Both my service manager and myself are unsure of what they are going to do when I stop by. He kind of said "uhhh, I guess you can make it howl around the block again for my tech and we'll just keep jumping through the hoops."

He also sounded a little bit frustrated because they want him to test drive the exact same configuration I have and he can't find a manual transmission OR anywhere. Now he has to try to negotiate with another dealership to somehow find a ride, said mine is the first 3rd gen manual he's even seen. Just lol.

I have it on video and offered that to save everyone some time, since I already made it clear I fully expect there to be no fix at this time, but there is a strict process (apparently) they need to follow...at least it involves free donuts and coffee.

Oh well, I'm ok with it at this point. I got a nice warranty out of it and I get free donuts/coffee and my job still pays me for being at the dealership while they figure something out so I'd say it could definitely be worse.

I also have the howling on my 2017 TRD OR DCLB. It only has 450 miles and I've noticed the howling for some time now. For me, it happens right at 55 mph. I can hear the howling right when I get to 55 mph just accelerating normally. And when I feather the throttle, the howling comes in and out. I'm not sure whether I should take it into the dealership and demo it to them to have it on record or just wait till the fix comes out. I don't want to be repeatedly going back to the dealership and spending a lot of time there. Any advice?

I haven't been following this post but I was told today that they are replacing my rear diff. The part is back ordered and could take up to 3 months. I brought it in and both the tech and foreman apparently heard it right away.

Replacing the diff hasn't been working. Still don't know why they're doing this. Hope it fixes yours. Lot of folks say the howl comes right back after diff replacement.

I'm all for them replacing everyone's diff only to see it still howls. That repair is expensive and will get them moving real quick to providing an actual fix.

I'll have to keep my eyes on this, maybe when I go in for my 5,000 mile service I'll have mine noted in my service record. I hear it, but it's not terrible and I'm not at 55 MPH all that often. The idea of getting an upgraded warranty out of it is appealing though. Hopefully they come up with a fix before the 60K powertrain is up.

It's annoying that something is probably wrong, but I can't stress it right now. I was skeptical about the 6MT stuck in gear fix, but it's been perfect, knock on wood. I'm not being an apologist, but here's to hoping something is in the works.

Update after rear diff replacement....after 2000 miles rear diff is howling but this time is worse, i got a new issue between gears a feel like hard shift like rear ujoint is loose but it comes from the diff. My truck is trd sport stick shift and the hard shift is not normal. I took this truck back to the dealer at first they didn't believe me. Manager service drove the truck and confirm is something wrong with my truck, but first he said it needs to call fucking toyota hq, and the he will call me. I got the call this afternoon and manager said there's no solution for my problem... fuck you toyota my truck only has 5000 miles. Hey i can deal qith the howling but the hard shift not. Fuckkkk you toyota.

I'd try another dealer. Some are better than others.
