I recently discovered this at 4000 miles. Upon acceleration the howl goes away. On decel it is prominent and changes pitch with speed both of which indicates a noisy bearing.. I had the 35-45 LCA howl This is much different because it is NOT seed related as it changes pitch and goes away under load...
I won't accept "they all do it" This Tacoma has been a fantastic truck in all areas BUT service.

HA no I am still around. I don't sign on much because I am not doing anything special with my truck, No addons, no engine mods, No new wheels and tires,.....Nothing much to talk about except the howling which is mentioned in this thread. Definitely not wind related.

Pitch changes as well as the sound only appears when coasting.

I found that only makes the sound when coasting in gear. If I push into neutral and coast, the sound goes away. Have you experienced this?

Changed my vote today to yes. DCLB . Ever so slight howling at 50 to 60 mph when feathering gas / coasting . It is very hard to hear and if I was not trying to hear it I would never hear it. 3270 miles .

Also, a ring/pinion backlash discrepancy can give the same symptoms.

There's a few people on here that have ideas about what's causing the howl. They seem to be pretty smart. I would like to think Toyota has smart people working for them also. If any of the ideas we've came up with would fix it, we should have quiet trucks by now.:notsure:

I drove it for the first time after the replacement. The howling is very quiet now, but still there. I'll wait until it gets worse to take it back, then we'll see what happens

Unfortunately it will get louder. It sounds very similar to my case. They replaced my rear diff. It was quiet for the first 500 miles. Now it is louder than ever. I can hear it over the radio.

I'm surprised with such a large company and something that isn't even remotely new technology it's taking so long for them to find the actual problem and issue a fix.

If it was some sort of problem with some fancy new technology type thing sure, but a differential?

How long did you drive it? Mine seemed quiet until the fluid had time to heat up. Eventually now it seems to be just as loud as before, maybe SLIGHTLY quieter, but still loud enough to be annoying as hell. One thing did change though. It was the worst before at 59 mph, now it is the worst at 60 mph. 1 mph different, odd I know. Can't believe I'm focusing on these things as I drive home, maybe we all just have some severe form of OCD.

    But also an update:

Toyota watched my videos, now they need me to go back to the dealership and have it recorded in some special format. Or I'm assuming at a higher quality than what my phone could provide. That will be another day they have the truck. The service manager said that once that is complete, Toyota will listen to the sound again and possibly send an engineer down from Torrance to see what is going on.

    The saga continues....

Considering ordering these decals in bulk, for our rear windows, and sending them to all of the members here who have this going on. Together we ride:
