as for the transmission, sure, a rep from corporate stated, and I quote, "there are known problems with these transmissions". To help with the logical connection, "problems with" = "less than the goal" = subpar. Why subpar? Because Toyota's "par" would be to NOT have the "known problem". Hopefully that logic isn't to difficult to follow.

Interesting twist. I like the muffler comparison. A muffler has a characteristic sound. One's opinion about the output sound is irrelevant to the characteristic. To this point we agree. Properly engineered/set up hypoid gear mesh, and/or pinion bearing mesh, has a characteristic output sound that should never be able to be heard inside an insulated/sound deadened cabin. Therefore, if an axle with hypoid gear mesh and pinion bearing should not be heard inside the car, and our trucks have such systems, and we can hear intermittent roaring/whirring load and clear in our trucks, then it can be concluded something is outside of normal characteristics of such a system, and thus, is defective. This is fairly simple logic for those that understand hypoid fear type axle systems. It may be difficult for someone who doesn't understand hypoid systems to understand.

totally irrelevant mess written here, using big words gear mesh will not undermine what has been stated by Toyota corp about this issue, the rear diffs are within specifications and are operating properly. as I stated to Smitty9 and now you if you have such great insight/knowledge and real experience with how rear diffs/trans should be properly operating why aren't you presenting your findings/evidence to Toyota corp. and if you feel so strongly about it why aren't you getting Legal representation in order to get financial reimbursement for purchasing a vehicle with sub par issues?

known problems that have been addressed again with TSBs, doesn't mean sub par, ive had 4 Toyota trucks many of them having Recalls and TSBs(known problems)at no cost and was given a loaner car til completed. all clocked over 200k+++ miles with no major issues only general maintainence. im 100% satisfied

hey Smitty99 the only reason you are trying to generate trouble here is that you think that getting people up in arms over this issue is because you think that you can get a free lifetime warranty on your truck from Toyota so you can get free new parts on your truck whenever you cry Wolf about a problem in your vast and expansive automotive knowledge exists with your ride. also this site is for Toyota Truck Enthusiasts, and if you are making false representations and claims its within our rights to call you out on it.

This mushbrains guy is deluded. If he had followed along he would already know I was awarded a platinum 125k mi/8yr warranty for the multitude of issues I've documented on my truck with corporate

exactly, you railroaded them into giving you the warranty so you would go away this was you game from the get go, now everything from creaky wiper blades to noisey ash tray will be covered and replaced whenever u determine it not satisfactory, that was a big mistake by them to do,since all of your gripes have been addressed and remedied by them already.

Are you still here? go somewhere else and stop stirring up shit.

I have owned all generations of Toyotas in the last 20 years. Do you know how much time I spend in the other generations forums complaining about people's concerns and opinions about their problems with their trucks? None. Maybe you should try that approach also. It would make this place more enjoyable for all.

people stir up shit by making up false stories in order to appropriate an Extended warranty, this was game from the get go. other than this thread what has the OP done on this forum except encourage others to complain and gripe in order to facilitate the same Platinum warranty he was AWARDED:rofl: from Toyota corp I cannot recall the OP ever helping some member with tire choices, rims, lighting, general maintainence etc. so he has arrived here with 1 reason to stir up false shit about Toyota quality in order to benefit himself

You have shown to be absolutely Wrong again. Here is a closer shot at the truth: I educate people who wish to be educated. I also look out for and support the small guy. I try to help those that lose hope and feel helpless.

To be fair many people cry until a dealer gives them something more.
At times can't fully blame them though.

Look at the low transmission fluid thing that happened originally (supposedly fixed now)
Toyota just up and filled it but didn't do any test etc?
I'd want a longer warranty too. Who knows if the low fluid caused any damage that will only be felt down the line and have it be where the transmission doesn't last as long.

It does seem to be the western way to do so (both here in canada and in the US). Complain and complain until the manufacturer 'compensates' you.
I don't always agree with smitty and at times do find he just complains a bit too much about the trucks but he has had a lot of issues, and has helped others that had the issues understand them. Its a new vehicles first year run, problems are to be expected. I think he's one of the few members who has had every problem reported.
But if toyota paid more attention to quality control a lot of these issues wouldn't have been present.
I do find that smitty and a few others on here though just shit on the 3rd gen as a pile of junk when all these reported problems are only on maybe 1/4 of all the trucks actually made.
