Anybody else called the dealer yet? At my 5000 and 10000 mile service, my dealer told me that they "escalated my concern to corporate," when they could not find the source of the noise. They said that it is a characteristic of the vehicle. I'm sending them an email now to request the fix.

One thing I noticed is that the TSB number is very similar to the squeaky clutch pedal TSB for the Gen2. Wonder if someone who has access to the TSBs can check/ verify that this is indeed for the differential noise.

TSB-0186-12 is the TSB for the Squeaky Clutch Pedal in the 2nd gen. Not sure if that's significant or not.

I'll be happy if it's just a TSB for the squeaky clutch. :)

    yep.
I don't have the howl but we get shafted on TSB's
I almost wonder if Toyota Canada can contact Toyota USA for said TSBs.
When I asked about the TSB for the shift delay etc the dealer said they can't do anything.

I texted one of my friends who's a tech at my local Toyota dealership and he didn't see any new TSB's for the rear end howling. I gave him the TSB-0186-17 number but he could't find anything. Maybe the TSB is still really new and hasn't shown up on their system. Interested to see if anybody else has contacted their dealer and asked about it. @smitty99 have you gotten any update from your dealer? I would've thought you'd be the first to know if there was a TSB available.

The TSB is for a whine from the manual transmission in 5th/6th gear. It relates to a heat shield/insulator. That and 4 bolts needs to be replaced.

Sorry auto guys, nothing to see here :(

He probably mean't that he didn't see anything related to rear end howling from the differential on the TSB. Either way, it looks like it's still a waiting game for the howling fix.

In the meantime, maybe I'll just drive around with a dog in the back so that when people ask what's that howling?, I'll just say oh that's my dog there's something about driving at 55mph that he just hates.

I have little faith that this whine is the transmission in my case, but the service advisor that has been working with me says he doesn't mind doing the TSB regardless. I agreed to wait until my next scheduled service (few thousand miles) to get it done. I'll update then, especially if nobody else with a M/T gets it done before then.

    Until then..... wooooooooooo wooooooooooooooooooooo

@EB Group I talked to a service advisor. The TSB is for a whine from the manual transmission in 5th/6th gear. It is due to a heat shield/insulator and the TSB involves replacing it and 4 bolts.

So it sounds limited to the manual transmission (which makes me think it isn't this since plenty of autos have the howl). I called asking if the TSB number was related to a howl/whine from the differential and they said no, it is for a whine from the manual trans.
