Have him contact all dealers near you through the internet and ask the lowest price offer for trucks he is interested in
$35k seems high for a 4x2, i have never looked at 4x2 but i know OR 4x4 are around $36-$37k and you can easily get $3000 off MSRP putting it around $33-$34 for 4x4

There are a few "How much did you pay" threads, dont think there is a 4x2 one

Down payment might not really give you any discounts on price, down payments usually just give you lower monthly payments, lower interest paid on loan and sometimes even lower APR for the loan. I tend to think 20%-30% down is a good practice, unless lets say its 0% financing then its free floating money and should just invest that 20%-30% in something else

What do you think is a good APR rate? He has perfect credit score.

If he has good credit Toyota has 0-2.9% Financing through them, usually the 0% is reserved for slow selling cars and never offered on Tacomas
But anything below 2.9% is decent i think, that is what i pay on my WRX through Chase bank
Down payments also help, i was initially offered 3.5% rate but when i told them i would put down $15,000 instead of $10,000 they gave me 2.9%

He could get pre-approved through his bank, they will let him know the rates before fills out forms so if they say 5%-12% are for their car loans maybe just run away

You might as well get 4x4 at that price.

He doesn't like 4x4, he'll never use it.

Just to put it in perspective, i paid 34,500 for my 18 TRD OR DCSB Tech 4x4. The main point of my post is, that Tacoma is overpriced. If that's the truck your dad is set on, I hope you can talk them down a few grand to get a fair deal.

I always tell people if you can afford the 4x4 it’s a great option to have. You may use it once you may never use it but I will tell you it’s great to have it if you found yourself needing it. Also when it comes to resale almost always do 4x4s hold more value.
