I appreciate turbo 4cy as an option, or even base. Thing that gets me is the lack of a 6cy (and diesel for that matter) for it's improved towing/cargo fuel efficiency.

Kind of cements the tacoma as a lighter duty platform over ford/chevy/gmc for mid duty use.

Another thought that often goes unsaid: Section 179 tax deduction trucks over 6000 lbs likely dictates much of the 4cyl platform decision from a toyota point of view. Lighter weight trucks like the tacoma don't benefit from the tax credit, and are less likely to be purchased as business/contractor/work vehicles.

any word on the future of higher displacement in the Tundra?

Real irony is that internal combustion engines are ancient tech and the powers at be with hold the REAL energy savings devices from us.....

Same horsepower, a little more torque. More parts to break.

Torque curve peaking at 1,700 v 4,000 is huge. Also 317 v 265 is not “a little”. But it’s clear what party line you’re backing.

It’s not that beneficial to a “real” business vs a tax scam. You’re just rapidly depreciating an asset in the first year. So you’re reducing your taxable income. Not like you’re getting away with free money or not paying for the truck… you can still depreciate it at 65c a mile or whatever the current rate is over time. Assuming the business keeps it for a while.

It’ll be great for slow rock crawling for sure. Hopefully it doesn’t have the same oil pickup issues at extreme angles the 3.5 does. It will be a beast of a little motor for sure, and hopefully it is reliable. I don’t see it getting better mpg’s and you can’t argue that it’s not a smaller motor made to work harder with more parts.

I am quite happy with the truck I purchased. I would of had a first gen... second gen is a little bland to me. I like the look of the 4th gen. I think it is an improvement on the ugly Tundra look. But I am very happy with my 2017 Tacoma and plan on having it long term.

As for change... it isn't hard, it's natural and always occurring...

Now I just need to figure out how to get the wireless camera system on the 4th gen to work in my 3rd gen. That would be great when towing.

Isn’t everyone regretting not getting the last gen with the 5.7? Doesn’t the turbo motor get the same gas mileage?

Well, I have had a 5.7L since 2016 and no regrets. Some get better mileage with the TTV6, others, not so much. Haven’t driven one myself.

My point was that there are still V6 Toyota trucks in production.

    They should’ve clarified NAV6.

I think like any vehicle it depends on how you drive it. I've met 3.5 EB Ford owners who average 24 and those who average 14 driving the same commute.

I pick up the exact same truck (DCLB, Ice Cap) in a week, Second one as my first 2020 was totaled (my fault). No issues with paint, nor anything else. Truck ran fine, as all I did modification wise was purchase an Air Intake Accelerator to replace the stock horn shaped one, a TRD Pro reusable air filter, and also an OTT tune, and it ran like a dream after that.
