I'm still waiting for a drag race video between a 2nd Gen and 2.5 Gen.

The similarities between Tacoma owners and Jeep owners is incredible. Whenever Chrysler kinda changed the Jeep, existing owners said almost the same exact things (obviously different parts) as the OP here. Whenever Chrysler REALLY changed the Jeep, existing owners slammed it as not being a "real" Jeep. Same BS, different group. I'll never figure out the psychology of those who feel need to "set the record straight" for the newbies as to why they shouldn't be excited about their new - and exceptionally pricey - purchase. I am exceptionally happy with my 2016 and my choice had nothing to do with how much better it is or isn't than the prior version. In fact, I bought it because of the excellence of the prior versions. I figured I must be getting a similarly excellent vehicle. Granted, I could have bought a 2015, but I'm a dork when it comes to having the latest version of anything that I buy. Not that it's better, that's just how my psyche is made happy! Anyway, that's my two cents. Let the butthurt begin.

I think it more has to do with those just coming to the Tacoma that think they have a brand new and much improved Tacoma over the previous truck, when really it's essentially a redesign of the interior and sheet metal. Yea it has a new, more powerful engine, but it's a heavier truck so performance differences are nil, and it gets the same gas mileage.

The interior of the 3rd gen is the only exciting thing about it.

Compare the differences between the first and second gen, then compare the differences between the 2nd and 3rd gen. There's a reason why people in here are calling them 2.5 gens

LOL. I've had a few Toyotas (at last count, in the double digits)

I am new here, but not new to Tacoma. Been watching TW for years, but only decided to post after buying a 3rd Gen, because of all the negativity. Plus I've had some questions that I've needed answers to, and dealer sucks when it comes to new vehicles, they are great at selling, but know nothing about WHAT they are selling. Judge me any way you'd like, it is what it is? I've had a 2nd Gen for years and got a lot of good info in TW over the years.
There are a lot of newbies to the site, everyone is at some point.
But thanks for pointing out the rule about Mods not owning one, I didn't know that.

Agreed, and enthusiasts as well. It's a good place to get info from experienced owners and past owners as well.

I was wondering, how did you get that awesome STi without the huge boy-racer wing. I was at my local Subie dealer a couple of months ago and when I asked one of the salesmen if I could get the STi less the huge rear wing he just looked at me like I was crazy. Did you special order that?

Hey now, I think that's a real deal STi there. WRX people typically don't STi badge their rides. Not like a few Tacoma owners I've known in the past that TRD badge their SR5/SR/base models.

Kidding aside, I think the STi looks clean and mean with the smaller profile wing. I wish Subaru would do a wolf in sheeps clothing STi limited like they did back in 2007

For 2016 they started offering a trunk lip option on the STi's. @450Ryder this is a STi in limited trim.

For $40k you can have a limited STi, or a limited 16 year old Tacoma.

I do, it's very fun to drive. I've only got 1600 miles on it and haven't noticed anything that really stands out on it yet that I'd complain about.

Or buy a WRX and put an OEM STI spoiler on it. I of course debadged the trunk lid when I did the swap. Just needing some new shoes. I love the STI and wish I had one but I'm totally happy with my WRX. It's my first Subaru after many Toyotas.

On another note, I have every intention of selling my wife's Nissan Altima and buying a new 3rd Gen Tacoma. Damn! I can't wait to have these two vehicles in my garage.

Traded my 16' WRX about two weeks ago for a 16' Tacoma. I do miss it, but I have no regrets. The 16' Tacoma is awesome.
