Can anyone explain to me the diff between a

SR double can 4x4 vs a TRD 4x4? Is the 4x4 system different ?

Also my local dealer has off-road 4x2. Wouldn't one want off-road Ina 4x4 model only ?

Stock but with a Warn 10s winch Used to be a lightly modded Tacoma
The more air bags the better and the 16's have knee airbags.

They're the same system. The 4x4 can be disabled or enabled depending upon the situation (hi,lo,off). It is nothing like Subaru's AWD. When 4x4 is off, it is RWD in terms of where the power is distributed to.

Yes traction is the main issue for our use

    Sandy road in summer
    Muddy slippery in winter

It's about 24 miles away from paved roads

So a DCTRDOR4wd manual is likely the best option

Got a chance to see a 16 up close today. It's a nice truck but I'm just not that sold on it yet. Anyways, here's two 16's to look at.

When are they getting away from the EJ motor in the STi? They have the ringland issue, right?

By ringland issue you mean? How many of the EJ's have had the issue? I'm not talking enthusiast site issues but overall, is it enough to warrant a recall or significant change in design?

I have had 7 subarus since 1981. Fantastic machines. Never had any trouble, till I had my Outback. 2 headgasket in 35K miles. So joined NASIOIC to research. Read about the ringland on the EJ motors there.

I know when the current body WRX came out, people raved about the 2.0 new motor, but Sti still had the old motor.

I can't speak to the % as after my head gasket issues I had experienced, I left Subaru and replaced my Outback with a Tacoma.

Toyota is not without their own issues. The 3.0 had head gasket issues, frame rust issues, strawberry milkshakes in the 3rd gen 4Runner, motor mount issues in the 2005 Tacoma, inner fender well bulges on the FJC in 2007.youve got to look at numbers, what percent of members on NASIOC with the EJ had issues? Of that, what percent of STi's sold in the US have reported problems on the site?

I didn't say Toyota was bulletproof or Subaru was crap. I have had more Subarus than Toyota/Lexus and aside from one Outback, my subarus have been bulletproof.

I don't know the %. I was just asking when the new motor will go in STi, that is all. I had a R32, and a MS3. I really wanted to make the STi jump, for a DD, but the issues online kept me away.

I can see that but I kinda said fuck it and took the plunge with the STi. Over all it's a great daily driver that I use. Suspension may be a little rough for some but I did have a 4Runner with the OME lift on it and it was a rough ride. Overall, given the numbers, I'm not worried about the EJ motor in the STi. If I suffer ringland failure I think I'm covered since I haven't mod'ed it at all.

Hey everyone, long time lurker, current 2nd gen Taco owner, previously owned a 1st gen.

Living in Baja is synonym with owning a truck and nothing comes close to Tacomas in reliability. So, I'm looking into getting a 3rd gen but TMEX makes it nearly impossible for dealers to have a demo or one for show and my options are very limited, TRD Off Road not being one of them.... so I'm trying to stay positive; never had CRAWL, never needed it, but you gotta admit its freaking awesome.

Being a surfer, I simply HAVE to take the key with me, the mexican trims are all button-start, so my questions (to owners with this on their trucks, of course) are:

Do they give you a normal key along with the smart one? Can you open the door with said normal key without activating the alarm? This happens with other cars, annoying as F!.

I worked at the local dealer for a while and I know alarms can be programmed, but I don't want to buy a truck just to find out I'm gonna have to put up with the f****** alarm every time just cause they can't override that.

    Thanks for any help! :)

The manuals still have a key (no push button start), but then you can't have the crawl control.....comes down to what's more important to you.
