While it seems like the best option, I dont trust it 100%, but will keep it in mind.

Anyone with actual experience on this matter?

Being a diver, I'm in the same boat. Local dealer showed me a trick.

On the side of my FOB is a little detent. Push in the top, and a mech key pulls out the bottom where the key ring is attached. Use that key to mechanically lock the doors.

    Cheers!

I'm fully aware of the mechanical key, what I was asking was if the alarm would be triggered by the key while unlocking the door with it, as now days most alarms activate after 30 seconds regardless. I also know FOB's can turn on a car without a battery (slot or other method). If the mech key somehow has its own chip or whatever to prevent triggering the alarm, then that's perfect.

Like I said, I've unlocked many cars with a mech key that have a FOB system and every time the alarm goes off.

At any rate, gonna buy it. Thanks.

I'm also looking to make the jump like you form a subie to a taco, I have an 09 wrx and have had some issues with the car, the quality is just not there. I had the firewall welds break and had subaru deny there was an issue till they finally fixed the problem as a "good will" then a year later they mailed all owners a letter admitting there is an issue and extended the warranty 1 extra year. The steering rack went bad and apparently is a common issue, the ac is currently having issues (compressor short cycles), the power mirror controls don't work, and right now the abs system is throwing a code and has disabled the hill start assist while occasionally flashing cruse control light ...and I babied the shit out of the car, I never drove it like it was stollen. Forgot to mention it uses a bit of coolant as week every few thousand miles (don't know of that is normal)

Confirmed this morning, I was able to unlock the door after shopping using only the mechanical key without setting off the alarm. Before anyone asks the obvious question: my gal was waiting at the storefront with both FOBs.

EDIT: Oh, and we locked it with the FOB

Ei! Head's spinning on this 2016 uptrade deal the dealer offered yesterday.

Brain is fried so let me just blurt this out.

How complicated or dumb does this get for anyone in the habit of having a spare key mounted for longer roadtrips?

Can the mechanical key be separated and copied?

I LOVE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND - PROVEN OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! IF IT AIN'T BROKEN...DON'T FUCKING FIX IT! 3RD GEN IS BETTER THAN THE 2ND. THEY APPLIED SYSTEMS FROM MORE EXPENSIVE TOYOTA SUV/TRUCKS TO THE TACOMA. AWSOME! KEEP UP THE AWSOME WORK TOYOTA! LET THE IDIOTS WHOM WANT THE LATEST , SUPPOSLY GREATEST TECH., DEAL W/ THE HEADACHES AND DEPLETING BANK ACCOUNTS. BTW I WENT TO CABELAS AND BASS PRO...PLENTY OF TUNDRA AND TACOMAS IN THE PARKING LOT! APPRENTLY THESE OUTDOORS PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS DEPENDABLE! TOYOTA FOR LIFE!

Add me to the list of people who replaced their subaru with a tacoma (I also had a 1st Gen Tundra though). Bought a 2013 WRX new, within 35k turbo was leaking oil, excessive oil consumption, transmission made a lot of bad noises, center console broken, paint was crap, clutch was inconsistent (firewall flexed when pressing in the clutch) etc. IMO, car was fun, but a POS. Traded my WRX and '01 tundra (215k) on a 2011 tacoma. The WRX was nowhere near toyota quality.

My understanding is that the ringland issues were from running too much boost.

The car is damn fun, no doubt, but they have their issue for sure and as stated before in finally letting the subie go and getting a tacoma.

Go on Nasioc forum and you'l read many threads with people having stock STI's having ring lands fail, does driving style play a roll? Maybe? But who doesn't buy a rally race machine and push the the engine close to it's limits from time to time? I think that if a car is billed as a flagship sports compact then it should be able to take the occasional free-way on ramp butt dyno test. I really feel that the flat 4 design is inherently flawed.

Agreed. you should be able to drive the car how it was meant to be driven.

Just bought a new 2016 Tacoma SR5 about a month ago with a 3" lift. Just hit about 500 miles and have noticed a very consistent pulsating coming from what feel like the front. I had the 2nd gen Tacoma before this and am familiar with the driveline vibration between 25 and 35 but this one is a little different. Almost like you're hitting little cattle guards that increase in reputations with speed. It still occurs when I lift off the gas peddle and coast. I have had several people ride with me and ask if they feel it too and all definitely notice the subtle pulsating. Any ideas?

Do your wheels have snow or ice on them which may cause the wheel balance to be off? Has happened to me.

No snow. I have had that before. The wheels are balanced. As a matter of fact I've put new wheels on there and it was doing the same thing before and after. I'm getting it looked at on the 18th but was curious if anyone else had an idea.
