    Hey guys,
I have noticed there is a lot of information and videos on replacing the rear pinion seal, however recently while wheeling my oopsie included smashing the rear seal guard as well. I have a 2019 TRD Off-Road MT with only 25k on it, I have not contacted a dealership to see if they will cover it under the new vehicle warranty since I'm not sure what their definition of "Abuse and Negligence" is. With that said is replacing the rear seal guard as simple as separating if from the Companion Flange and replacing it or are the Companion flange and seal guard one whole piece? I have included some photos of not only my rig but of the damaged area. Thank you for any assistance and I apologize is this has been posted some place else on here but I couldn't find it if it were.

I don't know about replacing the seal, but I would bet the use your last pic as an example of abuse

1st, check wheels so that vehicle don't roll on ya.
    2. Unbolt the drive shaft from diff, those 4 bolts are specd at 65ft#'s(14mm)
    3. Very important, mark the pinion nut to the the pinion so you can get it at the same exact tightness, again, very important.
    4. Unbolt the pinion nut(30mm) no torque spec here because you marked the nut to the pinion.
    5. Using a 2 or 3 jaw puller, remove the flange from the pinion.
    6. That cover you boogerd up is called a dust shield. Not sure if its replaceable as a single part, or if the dealer will make you buy a whole new flange. And no, it won't be covered under warranty.
    7. While you're there, replace the pinion seal.
    8. Tap the flange back on, make sure you apply a thin film of gear oil or grease to anything that touches the punion or the seal.
    9. Here's the important part, get that pinion nut exactly where it was, only acceptable difference is maybe a 1000th an inch further(tighter)than the original spot.
    10. Ding the pinion nut to lock it in place
    11. Reattach drive shaft with 4 bolts at 65ft#'s

Awesome that's easy enough. Thank you. last question that edge that is in direct contact with the outer lip of the differential case itself, is that apart of the Seal? all seals i have seen slide inside of the differential casing without a lip.

When you see the new seal, it'll make sense. Yes, that edge is part of the seal. To drive the small if more smoothly, lightly coat the edges with black rtv.

Did you end up replacing your companion flange and oil seal both? If so do you have the part numbers any chance?
In a similar problem right now as mine is squeaking a lot when driving. Would love to know how you got around to fixing it.
    Thank you for your time!

it is important to note this is for a v6 trd off road 2017 automatic 4wd. Best way to confirm is to call any Toyota dealers parts department.

Always looking to modify! Check out my Instagram @TacoPandaTRD
Something similar happened to me. I hit a rock pretty hard. It bent my skid plate bracket forcing the upper bolt into my dust shield making it separate from the yoke. It was making an awful grinding sound until I hammered it around the axle housing. Just wondering if this is an easy fix. Can I replace just the dust shield or is it all one piece with the yoke? My seal is okay thankfully :amen:
