Im using the Directed Electronics bypass. The key I have is the smart key and yes it shuts down when the door is open as a drive off prevention. The unlock works with the truck running and you can also shut it off with the remote as well. Best part is you can add a smart start or external remote if desired. I have a smart start so I can start, lock and unlock the truck anywhere I want. Its the best! I have it installed in the wife car who takes the train every day. She starts it when she's 10 min away from her stop so its nice and warm or cold when she gets in

One request, if I may... It'd be great to have a write-up as well since it's difficult to print out a video to refer to while doing the mod... ;)

    Always in process

So you start the truck, open the door to get in, truck shuts off, then you have to re-start it before you drive off? Or does having the key in proximity disable the security?

    As long as I don't have to do 2 start-ups I'd be in for a $70 pre-programmed package!

Had no idea this would be so popular.

I will post the video and print out of directions with pictures saturday or sunday I promise. Give me some time on this. I have been doing remote starts for years and know major damage can be done if its wrong. This means warranty void the while 9. I will put a detailed video and directions with photos of wire locations together so nothing is in question for you guys.

All remote start options for the smart-key equipped tacomas shut off when the door is open regardless of whether or not you have the fob.

I need a remote start for the wife's 2015 Highlander. I am worried that the range of the OEM unit is not enough for her. She needs to be able to start it from the 5th floor of a hospital.

The good news is because I spent so much time metering all my wires the first time, locations are easy and you only tap a total of 10 wires. No cutting any wires at all!

    subbed!!!!!!

I'll be all over this if the install isn't too involved, not
big on poking around w/ the electronics of a new truck.

Smart start would be your best option. Good news is the Highlander is exactly the same at the Tacoma so this DIY would benefit you on both cars

Meh I'm out...thanks for the offering and taking your time to help out other members though.

I'm not interested in locating and tapping 10 wires when there are other remote starts that are plug and play

Been researching for some time and cannot find one that is true plug and play. If so, spread the word!
