:ohsnap: That's a pretty cool setup gpb. I don't think it would work for me with gloves and several sleeves on though. Now if you come back and say it's all gesture controlled and you start your truck like Darth Vader in the morning...I'm in.

oh shut it. On the bright side, it looks like the remote start is about to come in handy here and in a lot of the SE.

Yes, I keep the app in the dock so it's quick access. I do need to "time the lag" for the command to go up to DEI and come back down via cellular, so it's not something you use as you're ten feet from the truck. Where's it's really handy is the "wait, did I lock the truck?" moment when you're out of fob range.

Yeah, Anchorage(*) ain't Atlanta. LOL. Still handy indoors for starting the truck or confirming you locked it. Ferinstance, as you finish getting ready in the morning and put your watch on you can start the truck warming up before you go to where your key fob is sitting elsewhere in the house.

FWIW my use is going to be more for cooling off the truck in Atlanta summers than warming it up in what we call "winter".

(*) I did enjoy a day's visit to Anchorage in June this year, nice city. Really liked Humpy's for lunch.

Same here. I'm located just north of Toronto and been wanting to pull the trigger on this but the $55 usd shipping hurts.

I brought in another DBALL for another project. Got the loader and flashed the module. Working perfectly. Added Smartstart this morning and life is good. Pretty cool to schedule a start time in the mornings and having the truck all ready to go without doing anything.

KB offered to replace my module and emailed me the shipping tag. For as cheap as the modules are, no big deal. Thank You to KB and Nick for this kit.

Remote starter, tonneau cover on the way
I put mine in last week. Took my time as others said and triple checked all wires, about 1.5 hour total. Used the alternate location for the PTS & SLC. Also used a 10mm nut on the back of the screw on the recommended ground bracket, no drilling.

I love it in the morning!

So I might or might not be having an issue. When I use the starter the truck starts fine. I'm using auto lights. When I open the door the truck shuts off as it should. When I shut the door it didn't latch. I had to hit the lock/unlock button on the door. Finally it shut. Then when I got to my destination the door wouldn't open from the inside. Tried lock/unlock from the door and from the fob. Finally had to roll the window down and open it from the outside. Is this an issue with the starter wiring or for the truck itself.

I should note that once before I installed the starter that it also wouldn't latch shut, but once I closed it, it would open from inside as it should.

When I was having the issue tonight the passenger door also exhibited the same behavior.

I would say that's the truck itself.

When it wouldn't open was the unlock indicator present? Is it locking when placed in drive and unlocking when placed in park?

I'll have to check next time it happens.

Sadly, I doubt Toyota is going to cover it under warranty. I'd imagine they'll say since the wiring was compromised that it voids the warranty on that part.

So it did it one time before the remote start was installed and now its happening more often?

If it was me I would uninstall, tape your wires up to look like a factory loom and take it in. That way they can't say a thing. It should like a computer issue. Also check the body lines on the door. Do they line up with the rear doors? Is the alignment off causing it to bind?

First thing I'd try is remove the DBALL2; just a matter of unplugging the two connectors (14 pin first, then 12 pin) and jumpering the autolight wires if you used them.

Assuming everything was wired up correctly, that effectively returns the truck to stock configuration.

See if the problem repeats without the DBALL2 installed. Verify all wiring connections. Verify all are solid.

It does sound like a mechanical issue though.

It sounds like a mechanical issue with the door that existed before the starter was installed.

The starter won't effect your warranty.

right. I'd like mine to stay running and not off/on it, can't imagine it hurts
anything though, to me it's no different than jumping out for gas or something.
