I wanted to share my experience with the 12 Volt Solutions kit. I ordered my kit on Monday of this week and got my kit yesterday. He shipped it very quickly. It was professionally packaged, and had easy to follow instructions. I had already watched the video, but still, the included instructions are all you need. Everything was plug and play with NO cutting or damaging the factory wiring looms or harnesses. I had the kit installed in about 5 minutes. It took longer to take the dash and steering wheel panel off and on again. Just as advertised, three pushes of the OEM Fob lock button and whoola! Starts right up. Parking lights come on and it is just as advertised. I mean no disrespect to other kit makers out there, but if you want a simple plug and play kit that ANYBODY can install, 12 Volt Solutions kit is the one you want!

They're all using the same underlying hardware unless you go to Fortin. Just a question of where you stand on the expensive-plug-and-play vs lower-cost-DIY spectrum. Good to have options.

Short of digging through 51 pages of posts, I have the KBvoodoo kit installed. How/what do I purchase/install to make it so I can start the truck with my android phone vs the keyfob?

Typical mod’s, tint, clear bra, remote starter, Bakflip Cover, Bedslide. 2.5” BDS Level kit. New tires on stock rims are next....
Ordered my kit from 12Volt Solutions Nov 29 and received it today in Pickering, Ontario through regular mail.
Honestly took me more time to figure out the removal of the trim than the install.
    All in about 30 mins.
    Really happy so far....

If you add the SmartStart module your range becomes world-wide(*)

(*) for the pedants: yes there are exception situations, as with everything.

FYI you can buy a Dball 3 on Amazon for around $40. Same as a voodoo piece. I think voodoo puts their name on it. It’s a generic piece that is programmed for a Tacoma. Same connections. You can add a remote kit or a smart start or a crimesropper tele connect (cheaper more options..).

    12 volt solution

i ordered mine thursday of last week and was expecting it to arrive tuesday. last saturday, while i was painting my dash panels, i received an email saying that my 12 volt package has been delivered. to my surprise, i ran out and checked the mail and it was actually there. so in between coats for my dash panels, i was actually installing the remote start. took me longer to remove the covers than installing the unit. i also bought the smart start module for the phone and that one was a simple plug and play as well. by the time i was done installing, went back to paint another coat for my dash panels. really satisfied and happy with my purchase.

I purchased the kit from Voodoo and installed it around January 2017. I've noticed some issues this winter, and I'm wondering if anyone can provide insight. The problem is that the truck sometimes doesn't remote start, especially when it's really cold. It attempts to turn-over, but it seems like the start signal from the DEI doesn't last long enough to get it running. When I get in the truck and start it myself I have to hold the start button in longer to get it started. I first noticed this when it was below zero this winter, but I have also seen the issue around 10-15 F. It always starts fine above 20F, but then I don't really need the remote start. My truck is a 2016, so the battery is a couple years old but the voltage is reading ok.

    Any help would be appreciated.

A bunch of 2016 batteries have defect. Mine used to take long to crank. And one day at 10k miles it didn’t start. Replaced under warranty and no issues since. It’s a common problem. You should have dealer check battery.

Regarding the shut-off when opening the door:

I just noticed that if you unplug the door open/closed switch/sensor the truck thinks the door is always closed. I haven't noticed any adverse issues, other than the obvious.

Could this exploit be used to solve the door opening shut off problem? Either by:
    1. Permanently unplug the sensor,
    2. Add a switch so you can decide when you want the sensor disabled, or
    3. Have the remote start temporarily disable the switch.

(I don't currently have remote start.)

With the Viper Remote start the engine won't shut off opening the door , but it will if you touch the brake pedal before turning the ignition on
