Seriously. This makes no sense to me. In the morning I run out to my truck, put the key in the ignition, start it, and go back inside. I'm not electrically inclined, but there's really no workaround to the truck turning off when the door opens? There's gotta be someone smarter than me who can figure this out. Otherwise remote start is entirely worthless imo.

Sounds like you have a regular keyed ignition. In your case, the truck wouldn't shut off like the ones with push button start. Directions in the OP are specifically for those with a push button.

So assuming I'm all wet (which would be the easiest solution to my problem) does that mean for any remote start kit for a keyed ignition tacoma it will NOT shut the truck off when I open the door??

    AGAIN

You cannot change the behavior of the remote start. How is it worthless if it shuts off when the door is open???? It still have the truck to operating temp and the cabin is warm right? Sounds like it did its job

One for every time you use it.

How many extra starts that adds up to depends on your particular situation.

Typically I've found I'd use mine (in previous vehicles) once in the morning in the coldest weeks of winter and once in the afternoon in the hottest weeks of summer. So maybe as many as a hundred extra starts per year. A small fraction of the overall number of starts relative to other normal usage.

My personal feeling, is that having to restart the truck is a minor inconvenience compared to how awesome it is to have a remote start using the factory fob, for so little money.

    I mean, this is a no-brainer.

@nickj718 You are the man for doing this!!

Oh yeah I know! I was in the car electronic business for a while before going to project management. Prices may change due to where I'm having to order the units from. The place i was getting them from is out of stock now lol
