Looking for some advice. I have a 2016 double cab and want to put on a roof rack. For the heavy stuff like wood/ladders etc I'm getting a Trac rack, but for things like kayaks (2 at a time) surfboards, bikes, cargo bag, etc. wondering if people recommend the factory racks with the stowing crossbars or something heavier duty like Thule or Frontrunner. I'm less concerned with cost and more concerned with quality. Don't know a ton about these so any advice is greatly appreciated.

The OEM roof rack has a 100# weight capacity if that helps sway your decision for or against.

Look at Rhino, Baja, and Front runner Racks. I think I am going for a Front Runner

Rhino has a track that goes into the rain ditch under the weather strip that allows you slide your cross bars to where ever you want them. Thule, rhino and yakima are all adaptable with this track system.Tacoma_Ditch_Track_2016_2.jpg

I have a Yakima StreamLine system that uses feet and crossbars, but if I had it to do over again I'd go with a Prinsu or do the Rhino Rack track system. Although it's been reasonably solid and problem free, it is a bit of a pain to put on and off and isn't as good of an attachment style as using the tracks or a Prinsu style rack.

If you just need 1 cross bar on the cab, this is what I did...hard to see but i added Thule landing pads to the factory drilled holes above the rear doors. Now I can spread the cross bars to the cab roof if i need more width20161205_141354.jpg

Wow thanks so much for all the replies here. I'm kinda liking Frontrunner due to all the different accessories and options. Anyone had experience with them? Any sacrifice in quality in exchange for all the doodads? Rhino vs Frontrunner?
