    Just use the duct tape

Really any sealant will work, just use whichever tube is open or pick out your choice of what you have.

Just as long as it isn't "MIL-SPEC" RTV.... MIL-SPEC roughly translates to "twice the price, half the quality"

Ok. $120 ebay special roof rack all installed. Here are the instructions (which were mostly correct for the hardware I received). It's been on for a week and change now, and been through that much of the new mexico monsoon season with zero leaks! It fit pretty well, with some mild manipulation of the metal brackets, and a little alignment of the rack itself.

There were a few parts leftover that i snapped a shot of, and overall the fit is pretty good. the rubber doesn't quite sit flush with the roof, and i'm thinking about what i can do to seat it more accurately. Take a look.

All in all, I like the look of it, and if it works as advertised, I'm quite satisfied with the $200+ i saved by not getting the OEM rack.

Hope this helps some of you.

Same here. I went back and asked them to fix it. All they did was mitigate the issue. On mine it is in the front on the downward slope towards the windshield, slight gap on the outside edge. Dealer admitted it is a common flaw and mitigation put it to a point where I notice it but no one else does unless pointed out.

    Dave,
Your post is worth its weight in gold! Well...about $220.00 in gold anyway. The rack really adds to the Taco "Bad-Ass" factor IMHO. I definitely want to put a rack on my black 2017. As for the gap, I intend to run a thin black silicone bead in the problem areas. Many moons ago I worked as a mechanic for a Dodge dealer. Their convertible Shadows had leaks. One of the solutions was a thin black bead of silicone along the weather stripping. It sealed the leak.
And when done carefully blended in perfectly with the molding. Thanks again!!!

Perfect. Going to go buy some black silicone! I used just regular "clear" silicone under the rack.

Yeah, I looked and looked for a definitive answer on these racks, and figured someone else might want a solid answer, too. I'm just glad it worked out!

I ordered this rack about a month ago from "Givemefist" on Ebay and I should have inspected it closely when it first arrived. See photo of one of the broken plastic cylinders that houses a metal bolt. I definitely should not have removed the weather-strip molding on the roof before inspections. Now have to go buy 3M tape and reinstall weather strip molding while I await seller's reply to my request for a return. I hope to update you all about the seller's response.

UPDATE Sep 11, 2019. Seller "Givemefist" on Ebay was good for a full refund. Now I just have to decide whether to buy the same rack again (actually considering it) and just checking it very thoroughly upon arrival, or buying a similar product.

How well do the bars actually swivel and lock? Do they seem capable of supporting 100#(or whatever Toyota says they should hold)?
Thanks. I’m interested if the function is there. Not buying new, and hard to find used in Central CA
