    Alright,
For some of you new guys, oil does not stick well to stock Dipstick. So, get you a piece of 400 grit sandpaper and sand up to the full hole. Sticks good and easy to read.
I just did my 5K oil level check. Perfectly full and a nice honey color. What does this mean?
If I had a catch can, no oil would be in there because no oil is missing.
What else does it mean? By the color, it means not an undue amount of soot from detonation is in the oil. Means no sludge is developing.
Now, I could care less if you run a can and change your oil every 3K miles. You do you.
But for the ones here with a shred of logic and common sense? My level and color means no blowby or leaks and good to go the normal 10K between changes. It's only at 35K.

No way I’d run a brand new engine to 10k miles before changing oil and filter. 5k miles max throughly out life of the truck

Again, you do you. Several thousand Blackstone Lab oil sample reports disagree with you tho.

The sanding part was the important news. The other was just the results of the check.

Actually, this reminded me that I wanted to sand my dipstick.

It also reminded me that changing my oil every 5,000 miles isn’t really necessary, but old habits die hard, and I tend to idle my vehicles a lot for AC and heat.

Hasn’t cost me anything yet, because I get free 5k oil changes for the first 24,000 miles at the dealership.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I have adopted the method of giving the dip stick business end a light spritz of flat black spray paint.

Very easy to see oil on a matt black surface.

Prep as your spirit wills you. (I used brake clean and a scuff of sand paper)

    eta

I just got an e-mail from the selling dealer service dept. notice that my taco was likely due for a going over. So I called to see what they had in mind. They nixed the oil change, "Every 10K is all that is needed". And I've always been a 5K sort of guy. I'm going to miss those recreational oil changes......;-)

It doesn’t matter how long the oil is supposedly good for if the filter isn’t proven to still do its job at that mileage (which it isn’t).
