Drilling the pillar does not void the warranty. As far as resale value, it depends on who you're selling the truck to. Replacing the fender would be more costly than patching
3 small holes in the outer pillar.

WHAT... My Taco doesn't like to eat pollen...!!!:eek::eek:
This intake is for the motor, right..?? I think MY Taco can eat all the pollen you can throw at it..!! Even bugs and small birds if given the chance..! My air filter keeps out the bugs and small birds, but for pollen...Maybe I'm gonna have to get a HEPA filter, am I..?? I did not know Tacos don't like to eat pollen...!!:confused: OH well, I'm good till spring I think..

I'd say the point of 99 percent posts (or at least most) on tacomaworld are great for researching mods /maintenence / ect. Looks like the other 1 percent have decided the 3rd gen snorkel thread needs to be another troll thread. Oh well at least when I have my snorkel I won't drown on the next rainy day with the rest of you mouth breathers.:luvya::mudding:

First that I seen this thread. I love it! You guys are cracking me up! Actually a big reason a lot of us check in every night is for a little comic relief and comradery! If someone wants to do something to their Taco for whatever reason, that's great, because it gives us all a chance to make a more educated decision of what we think we need to spend our hard earned dollars on! If anyone would like, I will measure my Bushwackers for you. So lighten up and have fun!

Us non desert guys will go ahead and suffer the embarrassment for you. Though, I really feel your jealousy will keep us warm on the coming winter nights.

A snorkel's dual intentions are for cleaner air quality and protection from water going into the air engine intake. Toyota's overseas come with them stock for that purpose. Why would Toyota waste money putting them on those trucks if they didn't serve a purpose?Screenshot_20161028-155848.jpg

Not difficult on my FJ. It had a template. I'm sure the Taco does to. The hard part is accepting that you're going to have to drill through the fender.

the fender isn't my concern lol.
    The A pillar is.

Fender is easy to replace if you want to go back.
Can't just replace the pillar and not sure if it will cause any structural loss.

    Only other concern is rusting.

So did anyone wind up installing it? I see the ARB snorkel but it looks massive, curious to see if it looks worse in pictures than it really is.

Not sure if your question was specifically answered on this yet. I'm a bit late to the party and plan to do this mod either this weekend or next. In reviewing YouTube video installs of the Safari Snorkel on 2nd Gen's it seems everyone just treats the bare metal with a matching touch-up paint. I would think that this would take care of any potential issues if done well. I'll probably apply at least two coats.

    Don't drill the a pillar. I didn't. Like you said...you can't replace the a pillar.

Use 3M heavy duty tape on the a pillar bracket. I've taped on spoilers, sideskirts, etc. It isn't coming off. In fact, I'd be willing to bet if done right the double sided tape is stronger than the plastic screw inserts that come with the snorkel.

    Yep. Solid.

To give you an example. I once installed a carbon fiber spoiler on my BRZ with this stuff. I set it down and it wasn't perfectly straight so I tried to remove it and reset it. Keep in mine I had only set it down - it wasn't fully pressed on. It took me over an hour to get it off. And I almost snapped it in half at one point.

If you get the 3m outdoor tape (home Depot sells it) its not coming off.

I've had stuff bake in 100 degree sun. Sit in below freezing temps. It's still just about impossible to remove.

Since it's a small bracket you can just use string behind it like you would remove a badge. Bigger parts are harder.

I'd suggest anyone installing a snorkel to at least try the tape method before you drill. You can't really go back from that. :)

And I'd be scared of rust inside the a pillar as well.

3m ultra high bond tape is the best you can buy.
