Here's a better picture of ski rack set up on crossbars. I ended up getting the yakima universal mounts when my 3d printed mounts started cracking after 2 years.

If you're not using the crossbars on the OEM roofrack they can fold to the side like so:

Found this thread while search for this type of holder:

taken from a page I follow on instgram, looking closely it looks like a modified board holder you would see on a boat waketower.

Because I have a RTT installed on the top of my bed rack, I want to install a snowboard rack upside down on the underside of the rack. I don't see this working very well with systems like the Thule or Yakima ones because all of the boards would fall down at once as soon as I popped the latch open. Anyone got any creative under-rack mounting solutions?

Thule Snowcat! It holds boards separately.

Until I find roof bars for my thule rocket box I'll be dumping them in the bed. Should be interesting fitting my 190cm DPS skis into my short bed...

Our boards go in the bed, along with all boots, gloves, helmets, etc in a bin. All fits nice and cozy under my OEM tonneau cover out of sight. We have a Thule box on the top of my wifes new Atlas if we take her rig.
Mt Baker opened today! 60" base with 87" of new over the past 8 days. I usually wait till there's about 90"+ before going up. Now with Covid restrictions, might not get to ride that much this year...

Does anyone else have any simple DIY solutions they’d be willing to share? Today was my first time hauling my snowboard in a pickup instead of carrying it inside an SUV and my board hauling setup was, uh… sub-optimal.

I don’t have or currently want to buy a tonneau cover, and I’m aware of all the nice solutions available from companies like Yakima and Thule but I’m not ready to spend big money on it yet. I just want something to hold my board securely enough that I don’t feel the need to look for it in my rearview mirror as I drive down the interstate.

Nice T Rice, 155? (My 155 burton fits exactly tip to tip in my 5ft bed).

I would be way more concerned about the board getting lifted by sticky fingers than flying out of the bed at speed. Get a bag for your gear and set it on top of the board. Get a leash and clip it to the D ring at the tailgate, or loop a ratchet strap from one D ring to the other, through the binding.

I’ve had several solutions and I wouldn’t recommend a tonneau cover, mine worked fine for a few years but it gets super cramped quick if you go with 1-2 other people. Best case without a shell is if you already have roof bars just get a ski length topper box that can be used for all kinds of shit out of season.

Good eye, it is a 155 TRice. And just like yours, it’s exactly the right length for the bed.

For the immediate future I’m not too worried about sticky fingers… the local ski hill is 20 minutes from home and I don’t have any out-of-town trips planned yet. I do like your leash & bag idea though, thanks!

Yeah, to expand on my setup, as it works w/ out my shell and I did the same thing with my tonnaeu cover:

I have a The North Face XL Base Came Duffel: https://www.rei.com/product/188891/the-north-face-base-camp-duffel-x-large

I use this bag year round, it’s come in handy and is bomb proof, but for the winter months when I go to the mountain 3-5 days a week, I use it for all my gear. Holds my Boots, helmet, goggles, couple tools for the board, gloves, and ski masks. I grab the bag and board and that ensures I never forget anything. You could use a large yellow top storage container from costco for this also.

For my kids, I use the smaller yellow top boxes from Costco, one for each kid, has their ski boots, helmet, gloves and goggles… depending on which kid goes I grab their tote or both and toss it into the bed.

For the kids gear, I usually toss their ski’s and poles on the rack on the roof just to keep it from tangling up in the bed.

with my 155 board I just lay it flat like yours, bag on top. With my 161 board, it sits sideways on edge with the tail in the corner near the cab and the tip about halfway to the center of the tailgate - with the ribs on the tailgate it kind of holds it there so it isn’t banging around. Creates a little triangle pocket that the bag fits in.

I have it down to a science.
