I took a few photos as I went but unfortunately I didn't really make notes when I made it. I kinda just went at it, made adjustments as I went until it worked. I'll see if I can make a list or something kind of go by when I have a break from work. There's no welding involved, just cutting with an angle grinder etc.

    Any update on this?

Unfortunately I got in an accident and my 2022 TRD Off Road was totaled (thankfully everyone walked away with minor injuries). Shout out to the safety aspects of the Tacoma. My softopper Gen 3 is still unscathed and with the insurance payout I’m planning on getting a 2024 TRD Off Road but curious if I should sell my topper or try to mod it.

    Any Response is welcome,

    Thanks a bunchIMG_9321.jpg

Your truck looks just like my old one, softopper to boot and i was rear ended, totalling it haha. I went with the 2024 TRD off road Premium Package. It will definitely if your handy and aren't afraid to cut and mod it. I don't have a go by, it was trial and error but isn't too hard. Here's the inside for reference. It folds perfectly still.

very nice! What color did you end up picking for your 2024? Curious what looks good with that color softopper? Would like to see what the Bronze Oxide looks like with the tan softopper but haven’t found any pics out there

I wanted the bronze oxide but my dealership had a TRD Off-road with he premium package on the lot at the time in Ice Cap white. I fell in love with it. It's my storm trooper haha. You will love the 4th gen. My 3rd gen was Magnusson supercharged and his thing would have ran circles around it stock.

I just picked up my 2024 TRD Off Road Premium and I’m excited to try replicating your setup. I have a few questions about the hardware you used. It looks like those black right-angle fittings have fasteners rather than threads, is that right? Also, where exactly did you make your cuts? Any specific lengths would be really helpful.

I plan to document the process with pictures and dimensions for anyone else looking to convert their Gen3 to a Gen4.

Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions etc. I should have documented as I went but I just modified as I went trial and error. I'm ADD as F lol. Yes they are not threaded, they are fasteners that tighten with hex bolts. I didn't use the original pipe, I used a conduit like from Home Depot that got the fasteners.

I was actually playing with it some today to make it work with the 3rd brake light cameras...and once again a$$ didn't document... Just adjusted as I went. I'm sure you will come up with a better process that will benefit everyone.

no worries! I got a plan that I think will work. I’m going the same route as you. Got some 3/4” conduit that fits perfectly over where the original bar slipped in. Found the same fittings that you used but need to figure out how to adapt the 3/4” conduit to fit in those fittings (just a tiny bit to big), shouldn’t be too hard and I’ll keep you updated with progress.

thanks for your help so far! If you ever get a chance to snap some up close photos where I circled in red in the photo below I’d appreciate it. Just curious how you did it.

I ran into the same issue and had to make sleeves with some metal pipe I had laying around. I then tap screwed them in... I thought it would be a temporary fix until I came up with something better, but it's sturdy and haven't had to change it yet. Found some photos actually I took when I was fabricating it.

Great minds think alike! Thanks a ton for the pics.

Here’s where I’m at so far. I’m still waiting on a few more parts and have some more cuts to make, but I couldn’t resist testing out the fit. It’s coming together nicely—feels really solid and actually lighter than I expected!

Looking good! I like what you did with the connection, I should have gone that route but I didn't want to make another trip to ACE hardware haha

It looks better that the 3rd gen topper on the 2024 Taco, but I would have much preferred the angle match the body lines to prevent the uneven gap with the new topper. It wasn't hard to do and I'm sure y'all could have made it look 10 times better that what we have made having to mod the 3rd gen topper. Just my opinion. ‍♂️
