So one of the things that bugs me daily is I get out of my work truck and into my taco and the audio controls on the wheel are backwards. Pretty much everything I have had with steering wheel controls has up and down for volume and left and right for track skipping. Anyone ever have a wheel apart to see if you could rotate the button underneath? Seems like its fairly square, just havent brought myself to rip into a brand new truck interior yet.

I asked about this and was told no. I did reprogram the buttons to be correct using an idatalink but it still bugs me the little pictures are off.

Ill have to look into the programming. Know if the plastic cover can be removed? Maybe 3d print a correct one?

I looked into that as well and was told it really can’t be done. Better to just reprogram the buttons and deal with it.

If you find out otherwise I definitely want to hear about it!

Just something to consider...the buttons actually make sense if you're listening to xm or radio for example. Your preset stations appear on the screen as a list, so using the up and down arrows to change the station is intuitive. Maybe the 60 year old engineers figured most people would be listening to radio rather than bluetooth...

In any case, if you end up going the reprogramming route, you could probably just make a sticker or vinyl wrap to overlay the button. But if you really want to keep the oem look, maybe taking the steering wheel apart and turning the button 90 ccw is possible?

I’ve never heard anyone say turn the volume sideways.

The Lexus RX 350 has two up down buttons..one for channel and one for volume.

So is there some kind of readily available info on how to re-map these buttons?

Mine was done with an aftermarket head unit and idatalink...not sure if you can do it with stock head unit

When I was shopping for my Taco, I went and sat in a 4 runner. I could have sworn it had the exact same switch but the buttons where in the correct position. I can't seem to find a good pic of a 2019 T4R interior.

I thought I was the only one bothered by this. When I first bought the truck I kept skipping songs thinking it was the volume button.

This also drives me crazy. Has anyone tried to pull it apart? Just wondering.

@MESO has torn apart & provided parts for the rest of the interior, wonder if he’s made it into the steering wheel yet.

Skip a song - curse - skip 2 tracks back.

Not a problem, unless you're trying to impress that newly acquired hotness in the passenger seat.
