Number one truck in sales. Any number 1 vehicle in sales will have enough potential customers to justify development. Magnusson and URD think so.
I'll be first in line as soon as they arrive as long as the added power justifies the price.
    80hp for 5k? Uhhh, no.

So if you were to put a supercharger on, would that require you to use premium 91 or 93 octane? Or could you continue to use regular 87?

I wish. It just doesn't work with the design of the motor. Like I said I hope I'm wrong, but I bet even Magnuson tosses the idea. I put a roots-type blower on everything LOL I love the off Idol boost and download Torque comma so I'm with you, I hope they do it.

Yes true, lol that is how valve overlap and the nature of this motor works. Do some research!

Yes, you should run higher octane with forced induction. A F/I motor will run on regular (87) but it won't like it and won't be good for the engine especially if you're heavy on the boost.

well youll have to get the truck tuned, and youll pretty much have to use premium(93) once its tuned for premium you can put 91 octane in it but you cannot romp on it

Looks like someone got sensipoo for being told they're wrong.
Make sure you drop by Magnuson and URD to let them know that they're wasting their time... fill them in on how the "nature of the motor works".:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Isn't that about normal (or even optimistic?) for an aftermarket supercharger on our type application? Didn't the TRD supercharger add around 65HP to the 4.0L for around $5k?

Also curious, I waited years for URD to get their 5th gen 4Runner supercharger out. Never came before my 4Runner was flattened during a storm by a tree last year. Did they ever finally release one? Sorry if off topic.

You've actually got it backwards sir. The design of the atkinson cycle means that a continuous source of forced induction from a supercharger would continue to push the fuel charge forwards into the cylinder where the naturally aspirated engine would have intake charge getting blown back into the intake. The atkinson cycle design's main feature is that when power is not needed, the engine essentially operates on 60% of the cylinder's volume by leaving the INTAKE valve open during part of compression, not the exhaust valve. The blow back would occur when fuel charge goes back into the intake valve as the piston begins its travel to top dead center during the compression stroke, implying that if a forced induction system could continue to force the intake charge into the cylinder during this phase of engine operation (cruising, low load low speed scenario) the engine could potentially be a little more efficient, as well as much more responsive and powerful. I would think that it would smooth out power delivery quite a bit and get rid of the major flat spot between 0 and 3500 RPM lol. Should obviously help a little after 3500 too but the main thing would be that this truck would finally have the guts down low that so many of us have griped about.
