Has anyone successfully swapped a 2.7 out of the 3rd gen tacoma to the 2nd gen? I've found a 3rd gen local and was wondering if it would work.

Are you a wiring and ECU guru of sorts?

Anything can work with enough time, $ and skill.

But if you're asking if it's PnP, my shekels say no.

For all that trouble, might as well upgrade to something worth your troubles.

This question has been asked multiple times and the short answer is no, 2nd gen 2.7L is single VVT and 3rd gen is dual VVT.

Transmissions are also different, 2nd gen is a 4 speed and 3rd gen is a 6 speed.

You would need to swap the engine, transmission, transfer case (if it's 4x4), PCM, all ascociated wiring, and not sure what all else to do such a swap.

What years do I need to look for then for it to be an easy swap?

    05-15 for a 2nd gen truck.
