I noticed it isn't on supported vehicles on the website, is that just because the site hasn't been updated yet?

Looks like that's up to the customer, or their local tuner, to figure out now...

"WHAT HAPPENED TO OV FLASH KIT?

OV TUNING HAS BEEN SLOWLY MAKING A TRANSITION OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS TO DEVELOP A TOOL CAPABLE OF ALLOWING THE END USER TO CALIBRATE THEIR OWN SYSTEM. THAT SOLUTION IS NOW HERE. WITH THAT, WE ARE MOVING ALL OF OUR FOCUS INTO ENSURING WE CAN SUPPORT THE TOYOTA AND LEXUS COMMUNITY WITH THE ABSOLUTE BEST CALIBRATION SOFTWARE ON THE MARKET. BECAUSE OF THIS, WE HAVE DECIDED TO STOP SELLING OUR OWN CALIBRATIONS."

I'm sure not brave enough to "calibrate" my own system. Anyone know an experienced 2.7L 3rd gen Taco tuner on the west coast?

2021 4X4 Sport AC 3.5L MT - OME lift with Dakar leafs. 10x33 Coopers. ARB Bumper. KDMax Tune. 2017 SE AC 2.7L 2WD AT - OME lift with Dakar leafs, BA bumper, tooter manifold spacer, header, OVTuned. LED lights. Does not run like your average 2.7; this truck pulled a broken down HMMWV out of a wash. 2008 PreRunner 4.0L - 3" spring lift with Bilstein 5100s, ARB bumper, rear sway arm. Old Reliable, been around, beat up, and still runs like a beast.
    I have been using the VFTA1 for 04A22 (2017 2.7L AT).

What I have I think is the first beta

The first thing you noitice is it is a little bit snappier from a dead start. The half second of nothingness between when you hit the gas and the truck starts to go is gone. It runs nice mid throttle. Does it turn the 2.7 Tacoma into a rocket ship - no, its a heavy truck with the Hilux gas motor designed for the third world where they don't have as good as roads to drive as fast as we do. But my son describes the tune when he drove it as "it doesn't feel llike your driving through four feet of water all the time". If you get on the pedal and rod on it you will burn a lot more gas. If you drive sane, it will run (somewhat) economicaly as far as Tacomas go (which is the case for the stock tune).

Think you can dive into the ECU on a 2017 5MT?

I am looking to tune my school custodian's taco. He has 04a21...

Has anyone worked on a tune for this// do you have insights for the kinds of values you can effectively put and ask of the 2.7l?

Yes, a long time ago. 4.88. I chose the 4.88 over the 5.27 because I still wanted to drive on the freeway. There was about a 2 MPH improvement and good improvement in drivability.

I'll tell you the thing that made the most difference - the previous owner put 33x10 tires on the truck which messes up the speedometer. While the 4.88 were more than adaquate to compensate for the mechanical disadvantage the larger tires made, the shift points remain wrong because speed sensor is telling the CPU you are going about 10mph slower than you actually are when driving freeway speeds. This means the higher gears in the transmission don't get used unless the throttle posistion is too low to maintain that speed.

The 2.7 doesn't have a lot of torque. With a manual trans, you can just drive it they way you like and learn to run it in the sweet spots for what you want to do. Getting the auto to run right is a big deal with the 2.7 which unlike the 3.5/4.0L doesn't leave much room for error.

As far as I can tell, OVTUNE does not fix the speedometer - and in the 3rd gen trucks, it is not a simple gear on the tranny, rather a sensor at the wheel. Once I put in a speedometer adjuster circuit, the truck started shifting into the overdrive gears at highway speed like you expect it would and finally run at lower rpm. I'm seeing another improvement in MPG.

Between the 4.88 gears and fixing the shift points by correcting the speedo - the truck that used go get 15/16 mpg on trips around town and moderate two lane highway driving is now getting 19/20 on those same trips.

Press the gas down, the truck shifts down into 4 or 3rd and spinns up nicely. OVTUNE eliminated the sluggness starting off, what my son called "feeling like driving in 4 feet of water". Hit the gas real hard, and you can hear a "bark" from the exhaust reflecting off the cars you pass.

The Beta tune I have I think was just a first stab, and I think the process usually goes through several itterations to find the speet spots. I sent back some data dumps from wot acceleration but a "now try this" v2 beta didn't come back. I'm sure the market has the OVTUNE people focused on higher priorities. You are really popular if you can make peoples cars run better - everyone wants you to do something and I think they are only two guys.
