If you can get a picture of the sticker on the ECU showing the part number and email that to info@overlandtailor.com (or visit one of our OTT retailers), that's all you need to do.

We'll take care of the rest.

The wait is over for you 2016/2017 2.7L Manual owners. OTT now has calibrations available for you!

I just thought I'd drop a note and let folks know we are now able to support these trucks.

would an OTT retailer be able to pull the ECU to take a picture? Or would I have to pull the ECU myself

All of our calibrations are evaluated with our in-house 5-gas analyzer to ensure we are compliant. However, our 3G 3.5L Calibration is the only calibration with a CARB-EO w/ the Tundra/Sequoia/Land Cruiser/LX570 currently pending.

I do not have a date for EO on the 3G 2.7L Calibration at this time.

Out of curiosity, what did you guys focus on addressing with the calibrations?

Any charts regarding changes in power band?

Also, are there different tunes for different octane ratings?

How did you guys feel about the 2.7s tuning capability compared to the 3.5?

Our focus was to extract what power was available from this engine when specifically used with 87 Octane fuel (Regular) while retaining the adaptive octane capabilities built into the OEM Toyota strategy. Allowing the owner to run the fuel they wish. Premium will allow the ECU to continue to advance ignition timing in specific areas to enhance economy and response and improve output slightly. We also specifically addressed the pedal/throttle mapping to allow for a more direct and engaging driving experience with multiple options available for both Normal and "ECT" modes, allowing you to tailor the characteristics of your vehicle to your needs/style. The tune also includes a TCU calibration, which remaps the shift schedules. In short, it's a full calibration that addresses many of the platform's shortfalls. It, however, will not turn your 2TR-FE 4cyl into something it's not, so realistic expectations should be maintained.

Regarding what's possible with the 2TR-FE tuning vs the 2GR-FKS, the truth is the 3.5 has gotten more attention, as there are a "million" more of them. The 2.7L's are much less abundant, and the number of people seeking to improve them is even smaller, so naturally, the development is not the same. However, we've not given up on developing this platform, and we have a potential update coming that would further improve high load/WOT output. We need more time to find a test vehicle and return a truck to the dyno. On that note, here's what our calibration will do on 87 Octane over the factory calibration:

In the event future updates come out, are they offered free of charge or do you have to buy them?

Also, I’m assuming this allows for modification of the alternator voltage as well?

Yes sir, The update will be free of charge to any existing OTT client serviced within our network, or if you are a direct client (DIY) with your own flashing hardware.

Correct, we can provide an AGM charging profile on all 3G Tacoma's - 2.7L & 3.5L

I have tried about every tune out there and OTT is the way to go, again as JustDSM stated the 2tr has a ceiling. A tune can only do much, i wouldnt say i would feel any power increase from the tune just better driveability. The tune takes a slow, delayed pedal response, erratic shifting vehicle. To a slightly less slow, smooth, predictable, the way it should have been out of the box. Pedal response, transmission shifts and overall smoothness of the engine is what you notice. The added support to tweak the alternator an agm battery is a nice bonus. I always tell people if i was starting over and just purchased a 3rd gen does not matter what engine a tune would be the absolute first thing i did. Also we are hoping early next year VF releases the additional tools requested to squeeze a little more out of this engine. Justin and the team over at OTT are the only tuner out there that gives time and attention to this engine platform, give it a shot you wont be disappointed.

I meant the question more as an open ended personal take on it. I was curious if the 2GR being a much modern design with DI + port injectors gave them more flexibility than they had anticipated or not, etc

Am I in luck if I have a 2020 2.7 auto? I'm trying to follow along, but definitely getting a little confused. Do I have to wait for "VF"?

Yep! You can definitely get your truck tuned. That ECU is supported!

No waiting necessary, VF has everything needed for that ECU.

How can one tell if their 3rd gen auto trans 2.7 ECU is supported for OTT?

Mine is an early 2016 auto 2.7L. Unsure what ECU I have tho.

So I got my 2tr-fe powered 3rd gen tuned today. Put about 90 highway miles and 20ish off roading miles on it (rained-out washboard dirt roads and farm pasture).

All I can say is I can't believe I waited since 2017 to get the OTT.

It's a very subtle but huge change in the behaviour of the transmission. Much smoother, cruise control is actually usable now.

In 4x4 Lo range it feels like it could climb a tree.

    Definitely recommend.
