All i can tell you the ac is quieter operation than my old gen1 tundra hearing that compressor or whatever engage periodically. The 2020 is very quiet, only hearing the fan motor. Still, the system sucks not getting cold enough, but its better than what i had.

So they did comment on it being some issue with the oil in the system or lack of ?

Did they say if the fix is for 4 cylinder trucks or both? I know your post before this one only mentioned 4 cylinder.

Toyota was aware of this a year ago. They have been working on a fix going on a year now...

Supposed the oil is 46 PAG but everything I am finding in the charge can also has R134a in if I were to find a 3 oz or so can of oil only I would consider giving it a try

The service advisor made a comment on it after I mentioned that this thread advised that the issue is due to low oil in the compressor. The service advisor told me that adding oil only makes the sound move other places in the truck.

They did tell me this is affecting 2016-2020 Tacomas. They did not mention a particular engine type.

Thats what I'm concerned most about. If this is affecting 2016-2020 Tacomas, they should have had a fix already. Plus this thread is almost 2 years old at this point and there are previous posters who advised dealerships have corrected the issue. Corporate called me today and tried to smooth me over with a repeat of the dealership told me. I told the corporate rep that this is an ongoing issue and there is still no fix. He told me he would look "further into it" and call me back in a few days. I think Toyota knows theres an issue, but since this is mostly an "annoying" issue and not mechanical, they don't want to spend the money on a recall replacing everyones compressors. I'll keep the pressure on them until they do something. In the meantime, everyone who is experiencing this issue needs to bring in their trucks and bug Toyota until they do something.

After much pain and agony, my dealer ended up replacing the ENTIRE air conditioning system in my 2018 OR. The problem persisted. I'm also convinced that this is a design/manufacturing issue. Replacing parts isn't going to resolve it.

Ok so I never use the dealer for anything even in most cases even if it's a warranty issue I just get the stuff and fix it myself and believe me I have a few powerstrokes so I know the whole warranty bill of goods

I don't drive this truck very often but when I do most everything on this little Toy is great but that howling and scuba/Darth Vader is just plain sad

Guess I will gently dissaemble the dash this winter and sound proof the whole system and lines and see if this reduces the harmonics in the lines amd/or expansion setup

I wished Tacomas came with whisper silent AC systems like Honda Ridgelines have

Yes you do have a good point I would rather have no A/C or walk before I got a Ridgeline

I agree 100%, also had mine entire system replaced. Problem still persist but not as bad. There is definitely a flaw.

My 2020 does this. It’s quite loud and I live in south Texas so we already have 90+ degree days. So the noise comes and goes very often.

My 2020 does it, ( the sigh sound) I have the 2.7L engine. Doesn't bother me but does this lead to failure later on?

And now that I listen for it, I have a intermittent whistle too. Time to turn up the radio.
I guess there is an advantage of being a senior citizen and harder of hearing!!! LMAO

That’s why Toyota isn’t really in a rush trying to fix the issue; they just hope people ignore the noise/sound and just turn up the volume. More people need to file a complaint with Toyota Motor Corp.

Contact Toyota Motor Corp and file a complaint. Have it documented.
