Oh no man. That would drive me nutz and I already have my own Tacoma sound files on my phone to deal with and I don’t needed anymore.!
Well I will say this. What is normal sounding is subjective when it comes to Tacoma’s. It is it’s own class and it’s own noises aka weird sounds I’ve never heard in my other vehicles. The only advice I have really is this... if the ac works then leave it alone till otherwise. Sometimes we and the dealer can make matters worse by pulling crap out and adjusting or replacing things that may or may not be the cause. Most importantly “things” have to be consistent and present at the time to be diagnosed then addressed.

And here I thought it was normal. Guess I’ll ask next time I’m in for service.

For some reason, I actually get a ticking noise when my ac is on. It’s really annoying , I can hear to going through the fast food lines all the time.

I have a similar problem, but I don't think having the AC on is a variable. I have a 2017 Off-Road 6MT. The sound can be heard in the video below. I've checked all the windows and other random areas where I thought it might be coming from but nothing has fixed it yet. It also doesn't seem to matter if its windy or not (thought it might have to do with the way the wind was hitting the truck while driving). Anyone have any ideas?

Have you already checked the holes in the lower control arm as well as a few other holes on the undercarriage that have been known to cause the "wind blown over a bottle" effect

Just noticed this in my 2020, however, mine was while running the heat for defrosters/floor this morning. Only occurred once on a multiple stop and go drive mix of highway and city...go figure.

    Mine is the A/C whine...cept the A/C wasn't on.

Hello Aspen Thicket, the AC runs when the defroster is on. That's why you are hearing the AC noise. There ya go.

I called Toyota Corporate again. My case manager advised to call every 4 weeks because they track how much complaints they get and fix things based on that. Apparently they are looking into it still.

Similar issue with my 19 pro....hopefully Toyota will find a solution. Had Sam issues on 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, jeep attempted to fix it on 4 separate occasions....no luck

Just an update. Had my first oil change and the service advisor told me he called Toyota and they advised this sound is normal.

I believe you and that the Dealer "called". My answer to the deal would have been - "Lets grab another new similar truck and see ..." If it's not there I'd insist to fix or swap ... JMO

I called Toyota directly to verify. Per engineering this is a distinctive sound and is normal. I wouldn’t describe it as normal but they aren’t going to do anything about it.

I got the whine. 2021 Offroad. Just started hearing it at around 800miles on the truck. It’s driving me crazy already. I can easily hear it with music turned up and driving 75 down the interstate. No way this is ‘normal’.

Has anyone being able to resolve this through a dealership/warranty? Thanks

Just found this thread, wanted to let everyone know that the high pitched “finger on a wine glass” noise is still happening on the 2021’s. Just bought a TRD sport (30miles now) and I’m getting the high pitched noise accelerating around 30-35mph at 2300-3000 rpm.

I’ve seen a lot of references to the AC system but not much in the way of what was done to actually repair it (the service record with part #s), aside from “replace the whole system”.
Even saw one poster that said after the system was replaced that it didn’t help??

I would be very appreciative if anyone that had this fixed could post what was done exactly to fix it?

    Video of noise:

Crazy how they still haven't fixed this yet. Toyota told me they were aware of the issue and Engineering advised the sound is distinctive, so it's normal. I think more of us need to keep bringing our Toyotas in and complaining to corporate.

21 sport 6mt , 230 miles now and have the whine sound. I have had a lot of vehicles and this is a first. From reading it’s been going on for years and has no effect to mechanics. Just a sound, I tell my daughter it’s my turbo spooling just like my LGT. She thinks it’s cool. This is something that’s redesigned and Implement into the next gen. I wouldn’t want Toyota ripping my new truck apart creating new squeaks and noises to fix something that’s been going on for years.....
