Thats what i think too Arries. More specifically it may be the expansion valve attached to the evaporator.

I'll bring this up when I take it back to the dealership. Thanks for the tip.

It does suck, and it's driving me CRAZY. Not looking forward to a summer season in Arizona, when I'll be running the A/C every time I'm in the vehicle. :(

Man. I thought I was the only one. Mine sounds like an old school telephone ring.

The whistling sound you hear is outside of the truck, it was recently solved. use some tape to tape the holes on your lower control arms, that will stop it. It actually is exactly like blowing over a beer bottle, same effect. Tape the holes, no sound.

The AC sound is likely the compressor kicking on and off, which is what it does. You can have it checked but I have always been able to hear it, you’ll get used to it and it will disappear.

Trust me, the sound is NOT coming from outside the truck and has nothing at all to do with the control arm issue. Please read my previous posts. It is 100% something with the A/C, and it is not "the compressor kicking on and off".

Let me see what happens at the dealership and I'll get back to you. Maybe we can compare notes.

Mine is a 2018 Tacoma SR (4 cyl, 2.7 access cab). I have the whistling at times, lasts a few seconds, over 40MPH, with AC on.
It's not the Lower Control Arms (did that fix), not the rear end howling either. This video perfectly captures the sound that I have:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV76JHlTVl4 Going to have dealer check trans fluid level just to eliminate that.

Some sounds from the AC are to be expected. If u think the sound is not coming from your control arms, take a peek under the truck. Next to the wheel, the control arm, it's easy to assume but a simple verification will check it off the list. My GM AC made tons of noise. I just lived w it. Sure it might be .06oz low but why bother.

Yep, that's the whistling noise that I'm experiencing, along with the "Darth Vader breathing". Please let us know what you find out at the dealer.

Again, the sounds we're describing in this thread are NOT coming from the control arms.

Mine does the same but not always. Seems like a normal a/c noise to me. Gas, flow , expansion, orifices etc. I bet they cheaped out by not using a refrigerant muffler somewhere.

It's not normal at all in my experience. As I've mentioned previously here, not a single one of the vehicles I've owned in the past 44 years have had A/C systems that made sounds like this, and my wife's 2016 4Runner's A/C is dead silent except for the sound of the fan. THAT'S why it's so annoying to me.

OP, I’ve got both of the noises, exactly as you describe them... with dual zone. I agree, it’s annoying in a brand new vehicle, but I’m somewhat relieved to find out it’s not unique to mine. Let us know if the dealer offers any further insight or resolution.

My trucks AC does not make that 2nd noise but definitely has that Darth Vader Exhaling sound.
