So weird, I've never really noticed/cared about the small whistling sound, though I do hear it from time to time.

I do get a grinding belt sound if the truck has set for a week, I start it, and THEN turn on the AC.

It almost stalled the engine at the beginning of the year...but now it just does the below.
(As a disclaimer, I did post this in another thread but am just trying to get input in related threads etc)

Assuming that was directed at me, negative.

All is well with the exception of that weird grinding sound.

To add something valuable that more aligns with the darth vader sound, I only get that for a tiny bit right as I start off.

Once things get hot/I've been driving for about 10 min I don't hear it anymore.

But I never noticed till I saw this thread that it happens on/off a lot and progressively gets quieter until you don't hear it anymore.

To be honest, I'm cool with weird sounds as long as the vehicle is reliable.
IE, I don't care about the clutch squeak as it doesn't change anything.

That grinding sound though...bothers me greatly :bananadead:.

I also echo that experience as well.

Whistle sound appears to be normal and frankly doesn't happen to me after everything is warmed up.
And the times it does happen it's pretty quiet.
I have yet to see an example of that leading to any kind of failures etc, similarly to the clutch peddle squeak people ask about as well.
It's annoying to some yes, but as long as it doesn't equal things breaking I lean towards I don't care.

The weird grinding belt sound that almost stalled the engine when I turned on my AC after the truck had set for a while...has gone away.
I'm actually unable to now re-create the issue where I was before.
And that is for sure something that is not normal given that I haven't ran into too many others with the same issue.

I found the ac only whistle's when both ac green led's are lit. If just the symbol ac is lit no whistle.

every tacoma i've driven has made the a/c noise with no negative effects. not sure it's worth ripping the dash apart for a noise that's normal.

Read the TSB before you decide. Then you'll positively decide not to do it.

Bumping an old thread here. Just got mine fixed at the end of the warranty (1 month shy). My AC sounded horrific. Whistled, gargled, Darth Vader sounds, etc… It sounded absolutely terrible and was impossible to ignore. Completely gone now. Dealer took 3-5 days to fix. The quote they showed me was $3,500 if the warranty was out. Absolutely insane. They replaced the evaporator core/seal kit according to the printout.

2020 TRD off-road 6sp owner here, I am having the same exact sound as described in the video, it is the most annoying thing. There is a TSB out on this. I have to go to the Chevy dealership on 8/11/23 where I bought it from to have my roof repainted due to chips that have started to rust but I have also raised the issue of the ac noise, and they are going to send it out to a Toyota dealership for repairs hopefully. Keep you posted

Ok so update! Just got the truck back today and seems like the AC noise has been fixed, the Toyota dealer had it for 2 weeks. Since I just bought the truck the dealer I purchased it at covered the cost of the ac fix, he said it was $2800. No rattles in the dash that I can hear so far and everything seems to be as it was. So that's a good thing.

Truck has 44k on it and the Toyota dealer wouldn't budge on the price from what I was told. Glad I had a 3mo 3k warranty from the other dealer.
