Will do. I probably won't be able to get it in until next week, but will report back here for sure.

I think you may be on to something with the dual zone call out. I've don't have the premium A/C controls on mine and have never heard any of the sounds OP describes. Might have something to do with the electronic controls.

I don't have dual zone on my truck. Manual controls.

When my AC kicks on it feels like the truck turned off.

Did they happen to say what they think is causing the noise in your truck?

I've been in and out of town the past couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to schedule a service appointment yet. I'm hoping to get her in next week.

I have the same high pitched intermittent sound in my 2018 with the AC only. I currently have mine at the dealer. I recorded videos of the sound when I was driving. Took it in last night. This morning, the told me it is a normal sound. It is normal to them because they don't want to replace anything to remove the sound. The service guy told me he would talk to the shop foreman and see what he says. I guess I might have to turn up the music. I will keep everyone posted.

Well, I got a second call from the Service Department telling me they don't hear anything abnormal. I asked them if they watched the videos I sent them. They said the guys don't have time to watch videos. They said my keys and paperwork will be waiting for me at the cashier's desk. Now this is what I call great service!

I'm sure that I'll get the same run-around when I take mine in. I smell a new TSB in the oven! ;)

I am begining to think this is widespread but many dont notice or care. Today was very hot and i heard the whistle multiple times while accelerating. I have worked on many toyota a/c systems and I am pretty familiar with the systems. To me it sounds like a line or TXV whistling when the compressor cycles on with elevating RPM. Many new cars incorporate line mufflers to reduce noises and pulsations from entering the cabin. My old corolla hisses from the expansion valve when the compressor kicks on with a proper weighed charge. Not a whistle though, a short hiss.

Update. I went to the dealership and had a talk with the Service Manager. He said they couldn't diagnose the problem unless they heard the noise themselves. The Service Manager called the Shop Manager and I took him for a ride. He heard the noise several times although the noise was a little more faint than usual. It did however make the noise louder as we were getting ready to pull back into the dealer. He asked me if I was going to leave my truck there. He mentioned that if I needed my truck, he was going to call Toyota and see if could help him pinpoint the problem. He told me he would get back to me when he had more information. I appreciated how this dealership was willing to go the extra mile and let me take the Shop Manager out for a ride so he could hear it. I will keep everyone updated when I hear more.

The hissing is happening here as well, and is probably what I've described as sounding like Darth Vader breathing in the dash.

I gave the dealership a call to talk to the Service Manager and Shop Foreman. I am waiting for a call back.

My 2018 Taco has made this noise several times, I just verified today that it stops when the AC is off. I have the regular AC controls, not dual zone climate control.

People with this issue should try changing the fan speed too see if the noise changes. If it does, then its clearly(probably) a fan/airflow issue. If it doesn't, it's something else (compressor/refrigerant/etc.).

My 17 2.7 makes the exact sound as in the video in post #33. It is a/c related as it does not occur with a/c off. It occurs when the compressor cycles on.

UPDATE: I dropped my truck off today to have the lift/wheels/tires installed (woo-hoo!!!) and was able to secure a 2018 4 cylinder A/T Access Cab as a loaner vehicle. Guess what? The A/C system in this truck is DEAD SILENT except for the normal, even sound of the blower fan. Looks like I'll be using this evidence to get mine FIXED when I take it in to the dealer again. Stay tuned...
