2018 DCSB-OR. I am about to swap out my current tires out for new MT's. I am planning on snagging some steelies as well. I am going to put up my current set mounted on my stock rims for sale when I am done. Regarding the TPMS, how are people dealing with swapping the sensors over to the new wheel set? Are people really removing the wheels/tires, demounting and remounting them with out the sensors and then having them install the sensors on the new wheels during the tire install? Open to other suggestions as well, but I will need to have TPMS capability on my steelies and new tires. Thanks!

Best to keep the TPMS sensors with the truck, this ensures you don't have to have the headaches of matching and programming sensors to the truck.

Plus TPMS sensors doesn't change the value of the wheels on the market place, they are only compatible with 16+ tacos. The FJ, 4Runners and 2nd gen tacos use different sensors.

So you have the shop that is installing your steelies remove the TPMS and put standard valves in the OEM rims. Easy.

So the tires have to be completely removed from the wheels to take out the TPMS sensors? That’s another $60-80 in mounting and unmounting I’m trying to avoid just for a set of tires and wheels that aren’t going to bring in much $$ resale wise anyway.

I just did a similar project. Discount tire didn't have any issue beaking down the old tires and rims as part of the mount and balance. I just told them I was going to sell it all separately.

They can just break the outer bead and swap the TPMS sensor with a regular valve stem. They might charge you $5 a wheel or something like that. Are you going to be using OEM steel wheels or aftermaket? Just in case you did not know the OEM steel wheels use a different sensor than aluminum wheels.
