3rd Gen Tacoma Fuel Pump with Extended Range Tank

Sorry if this has been covered already. I did a search and couldn't find anyone else talking about this. I recently bought a used 2019 Tacoma TRD Off Road from the dealer that had a number of modifications already done, one of which included a 33 gallon fuel tank. The issue is there is an open recall on the fuel pump. I tried taking this to the dealer to have remedied but did not realize the truck has an aftermarket fuel tank. Dealer said they could not perform the recall due to the aftermarket fuel tank. Could anyone else in a similar situation give some insight? Not sure whether to just ignore the recall at this point or try to have it done elsewhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

If it was the dealer that you bought from, tell them they sold it to you that way. Then call Toyota.

The tank has nothing to do with the fuel pump and the extended tank will only make the job of replacing the pump slightly harder.

 

I had a dealer tell me that the headlights were not stock. Well I said so you sold me a certified rav4 with modifications. They changed their minds and replaced the one that had failed. So take it back to them

 

Does your tank conversion use the original Toyota pump that under recall?

 

Not sure, I have not documentation from previous owner. I bought the truck from a Lexus dealership, but since the recall affected their models as well, I think, like others suggested, I will take it back to them and see what they can do. Hurricane just blew through, so it'll be a day or two before businesses open back up. Thank you!

 

My understanding is a dealer is not legally allowed to sell a car with an open recall and if they do it's fraud. Unless the original owner swapped the fuel pump, they need to fix it. Take it back or go to a Toyota dealer and see what they say.

I reached out to a different Toyota dealership close by and told them my situation. I was told they would be able to perform the service. Part is on order now and scheduled an appointment next week. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here. Thank you all for the help!
