3rd Gen Tacoma Harrop Supercharger Release

I got something positive to say... OVT pulled through with a FI kit for the 3rd Gen's. Been waiting almost 2 years for Magnuson and Harrop to come up with a SC kit. Things looked promising last November at SEMA but nothing but CRICKETS since then. I was all set for a SC kit until they dropped the ball and have been silent since the "big news" at SEMA .

Mat at OVT has been great with updates all along, identified that the OEM fuel pump is junk and is the limiting factor with any boosted system above 5-6 PSI. He guessed that's the reason why things at Harrop/Magnuson came to screeching stop since they likely will need to develop a new fuel pump to the system adding a new complexity (and cost) to their kits.

Mat has proven he knows his shit after developing OV tune and the TT kit.

Super excited to try this TT kit and replace the junk OEM fuel pump which FYI I just got a recall notice from Toyota stating that the pump can unexpectedly stop working causing the engine to stall while driving. Interestingly Toyota hasn't announced a "remedy" for the fuel pump problem but I give Mat at OVT credit for identifying the problem during his testing of the TT kit.

The only "bricked" Taco's are going to be the 3rd gen's with the junk OEM fuel pump sitting in their tanks.

 

The recall on pumps wasn't the same issue that Matt ran into....

 

Not an engineer, but do you have an answer why Magnuson/Harrop stopped with the 3rd Gen SC kit?

As I understand it, the OEM fuel pump calibrations can't deliver enough fuel for boosted applications above a certain PSI thereby restricting how much boost this engine can provide.

 

Ask Magnuson and Harrop why would probably be the best place to start.

the issue we found with the in tank pump is it lacks the ability to maintain higher fuel pressure during heavy fuel demand, and the way the fuel rail is setup as a returnless during heavy port demand bank 2 fuel pressure drops before bank 1.

So we revised how we did the fuel system and upgraded the direct injectors and modified the tune on the high pressure pump.


and you know.. that's all "vapor ware" lol....

 

I did via emails and nothing but vague useless answers that they would post updates when the kits were available.

 

AKA the secret sauce that Matt figured out but doesn't wanna give any hints to the other mfgs

 

I don't get it. Why not partner with OVTune or Toyota to make a better fuel pump, fuel injectors and fuel rails so that they could re-coup the hundreds of thousands of dollars they spent in R&D costs to make those super chargers for this engine ?
URD and Magnusson may have sold a total of 3 or 4 S/c kits *(atleast according to TW and YouTube). And Harrop made a prototype, but still haven't released their S/C a year later after they said they will. And Whipple and Garrett has no plans to make one.
And OVTune's Turbo and Pumps are always sold out. From searching TW, I only see only a few people got them. I'm sincerely confused. Why is everybody tight lipped about whats going on? Could somebody kindly clue me in?

 

Matt has a stronghold, I'm sure his services don't come cheap, rightfully so.

 

Still, why not partner with him or Toyota to develop/sell a better fuel pump/related parts so that they could market their super chargers they've spent 100s of thousands of dollars in R&D. As of this moment, not a single S/C kit from ANYONE is available for purchase. Been waiting for 5 years for some umph. I'm really close to trading this one in for something else, despite how much I like my taco.
Over 1 million taco's sold. According to YouTube, there's 3 influencers who got the S/C kits. Unless everybody on TW who got S/Cs have a secret club, I'm completely out of the loop.

 

Ego maybe? There a few homeboys that have em on here. Who knows their background though. @Bascoma and someone else I forget

 

Anyone can buy one. I called Magnuson and ordered it right from them. Spoke to humans over the phone and had great customer service.

 

There are Hundreds of SC trucks now. Magnusons kit has been available and can be ordered.
I offered my assistance to some of these companies and they refused the offer. So that's on them.

Is the Harrop supercharged option for the 3rd gen Tacoma dead on the water; was this ever launched?
