3rd Gen Tacoma Hood Struts by Spiker Engineering

If you're not familiar with Spiker Engineering, we make the unique "high lift" hood strut kits for 1st/2nd/3rd Gen Tacomas and 3rd Gen 4Runners. Ours are the only kits available that allow you to set your hood height up to 8" higher than stock, giving you unparalleled access and lighting, not to mention saving you from banging your head against the open hood, which opens 6" lower on 3rd Gen Tacomas than on previous Gens.

Nice product, any drilling involved with the install?

 

Yes.

 

Yes, two ~3/16" holes at each bracket for rivet installation.

 

Mine are in - great product, easy to follow directions. Set at 5.5" above the standard hood brace. I love them!!

@SpikerEng any info on this fitting with aftermarket intake systems? I have the Airaid intake.

 

@Devious6, those look great in your shiny new truck . I'm curious to hear if the dealer techs will notice these when you come in for your complimentary oil change . Let us know!

 

I'm not familiar with the Airaid intake, I'll have a look or maybe you can post pics. You need to keep the inner fenders clear for the struts. I know that @Profounddiver had to do some mild trimming on the corner of the K&N cold air kit to provide clearance; and according to @BCfiremedic, there are no issues with clearing the TRD air filter box.

 

Yeah now looking at it I won’t clear it. Excuse the off-road mess under the hood.

 

I'm almost sure it WILL clear . The stowed strut is completely above the bottom of the black fender trim piece, especially once you move forward from the mounting bracket in the back. Since your airbox is completely below the trim piece, you should be fine!

Will I need to purchase a rivot gun now?

 

I purchased a rivet gun in 2006 for hood struts on my 2nd gen.. i didnt use it again until 2019 on my 3rd gen

 

You will need a rivet gun for this - plenty available on Amazon for under $15-20 that will work just fine for this task.

 

@4x4yotaphan , any feedback on how the struts worked with the Airaid box? Any mods required?
