Hi Folks! I'm creating this thread to give an overview of our SPIKER Engineering HOOD STRUT KITS for the 3rd Gen Tacoma. The kits are available at:

    https://spikerengineering.com/product/16_tacoma

If you're not familiar with Spiker Engineering, we make the unique "high lift" hood strut kits for 1st/2nd/3rd Gen Tacomas and 3rd Gen 4Runners. Ours are the only kits available that allow you to set your hood height up to 8" higher than stock, giving you unparalleled access and lighting, not to mention saving you from banging your head against the open hood, which opens 6" lower on 3rd Gen Tacomas than on previous Gens.

To clear up the common question we get, you do not have to set the height higher than stock, you can choose whatever height suits you, between stock and +6". Check out the beauty of the high lift hood capability and comparison to stock height:

We've sold dozens of these kits during our pre-order event in December, and are now fully stocked with several hundred kits on hand for immediate shipment to you. The kits are priced at $95 plus $5.95 flat rate shipping.

Check out some installation photos of TW members who've already installed our kits:

As with all our kits, all components are made in the USA, down to the shipping tubes. All hardware is included, consisting of heavy gauge gloss black powder coated brackets, heavy duty multi-grip rivets, and OEM quality high lift gas struts with an industry leading 5 year warranty.

Our pricing is more than competitive with other similar kits, and customer satisfaction is our number one priority. Check out the reviews on our website, and buy with confidence.

Please post your questions, comments, feedback, or photos on this thread to help others!

    Thanks for reading,

Yes, two ~3/16" holes at each bracket for rivet installation.

@Devious6, those look great in your shiny new truck . I'm curious to hear if the dealer techs will notice these when you come in for your complimentary oil change :D. Let us know!

I'm not familiar with the Airaid intake, I'll have a look or maybe you can post pics. You need to keep the inner fenders clear for the struts. I know that @Profounddiver had to do some mild trimming on the corner of the K&N cold air kit to provide clearance; and according to @BCfiremedic, there are no issues with clearing the TRD air filter box.

Yeah now looking at it I won’t clear it. Excuse the off-road mess under the hood.

I'm almost sure it WILL clear :). The stowed strut is completely above the bottom of the black fender trim piece, especially once you move forward from the mounting bracket in the back. Since your airbox is completely below the trim piece, you should be fine!

You bet! If you post back to confirm, I'll add the Airaid to the list of air filters/boxes that work with the strut kit. Thanks!

You will need a rivet gun for this - plenty available on Amazon for under $15-20 that will work just fine for this task.
