My credit score is between 690-730 (depending on which credit agency) and I make roughly 80k a year. Do you guys think i'll be able to get a loan of ~40k?

what kind of history do you have behind your credit? What kind and how much secured or unsecured credit do you currently hold? The number is usually used to calculate their risk and interest rate. The history behind it will decide if you get the loan or not.

If approved, the debt you are taking on is secured auto at 1/2 if you finance the full amount. That won't drop your score much if you are already low 700s

I've got ~30k student loans in good standings with the accounts opened 8 years ago, a credit card for ~4 years but I don't have any secured credit. But I do have a medical bill that was defaulted on 6.5 years ago (I know so close till it drops..)

Edit: I preapplied with my credit card copany and they said they would approve me up to 40k, just not sure if that means that i'll get it or not if I do the real application.

Oh. I don't know. You have no secured or unsecured debt pay off history?

Your low 700 score isn't bad for that history. You will probably be fine if your current history is clean. You won't get their lowest rate. I would go to a small, private credit union and have them run your history. It will take off a few points as a hard check, but they will sit down and tell you what they see in the history as it relates to getting a loan. They will probably give you the best rate, too.

Several hard checks in a ~???? day period should only count as one hard check taking off a few points. Have at it all around town

Thanks, I've bought all my cars in cash until now. Wasn't very good at the credit game until a few years ago. I know that a auto loan application is a hard credit check (hurts your score) but I was also told that you've got 2 weeks from the first application to make as many as you want and it will only affect your credit as a single credit check. Do you know if this is true?

I've heard up to 60 days. Maybe if you make them in rapid succession it won't count against you much. Everyone has different views as the formulae change often for these credit companies

Yeah, I know what you mean. I applied yesterday for credit and was approved. I'm ready to apply again in 60 days if the truck doesn't come in. I won't care about 2 auto loan openings 60 days apart.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm hoping to keep it under 3.5 if I can get away with it. But worst case if its higher I can have this truck paid off in under 3 years but thats eating my savings budget.

I'm starting my pricing and dealer search process... WTF is a $349 dealer prep fee and an additional Regional Fee of $649?

I'm paying with a certified check from my personal checking account...

Shouldn't these be covered in the $900 Delivery, Processing, and Handling (DPH) fee?

We were approved instantly for the credit due to my wife's credit history. She has debt so her score isn't so high. I have no debt and no history but a score of 810 because I have never missed a credit card payment for the 12 years that I have had a credit card. They told us my score got us the 1.49% interest rate.

We are only financing to gain me credit history to buy a house. We will make minimum payments for 2 years and then pay the truck off at 24 months and 1 day. They will get 450 dollars in interest and I will save lots more than that when we buy a house and pay interest for 20+ years.

just remember after payoff, it will take a few months for it to register on your credit history. you might want to factor that into your house buying.

A few months,,, I wish! My wife's student loans started dropping 2 years ago and Naviant, a joke of a business, never updated their Experian information. Thanks for nothing.

My dealer only charged the DPH fee ($935 for Southeast Toyota). Try another dealer. Some just won't drop the other fees, but some will.

    Thanks!

I've read every post in this thread and there is always some degree of conflicting debate regarding the various dealer fees. I'm of the mind set that the ONLY fee that is valid is the $900 DPH fee and if that does indeed include flooring, it's more than fair compensation to the dealer since at the moment, the Taco isn't going to spend much time on the floor so the dealer isn't going to incur and viable flooring costs...
