I have read 60k. Lots of vehicles I take care of in our fleet call for something right around 100k for iridium plugs. I would definitely push the iridium plugs to 100k without thinking about it. I could tell the plugs were getting tired/ large gaps by a slight stumble occasionally at idle at around 110k. So 120k worked for me. Keep in mind the v6 is not the easiest engine to replace plugs on because the intake manifold and direct injection system is right ontop of the engine in the way of removal. Engine runs totally smooth now after replacement.

Just realized you said 4 cylinder. Is it iridum plugs as well? If massive electrode I would stick to the 30k interval. For gold tipped plugs it usually longer, something like 60k. 100k for iridiums. Toyota is pretty conservative with their maintenance schedule.

The manual calls for 60k. Mines approaching 60K and thinking about changing it.

I hate you for this because it's time for me to replace the plugs, but now I don't want to unless they're indexed! Did some research, It's a process! You either need washers, a special tool, or extreme luck! I don't like the washers due to the possibility of leaks. The tool is definitely the way to go but even that is a bit of a process! Probably gonna wait til next time to do it!

I wouldn't sweat it or waste my time if I were you. These aren't race car engines tuned to the highest maximum output. You’ll never notice a difference, if a difference were even produced from indexing plugs on these engines.

please let us know if any were loose or were tight to come out. On my 2nd gen, they all unscrewed out a little tight at the 60k mile interval. I think some carbon had built up on the threads, based on how the threads looked. Either the carbon migrated up onto the threads, or there was some at the very bottom of the threads. The new ones threaded in easily by hand though.

When the coils are browned and stained, this usually means that plug was not torqued to spec or had loosened over time indicating blow by gasses or extra hea. I pulled mine all and replaced at 60K and the coils all looked brand new and I reverse torqued the plugs and they were a hair over torqued, but torque accuracy is usually a bit less when using reverse. With that being said, I have not heard of any damage or issues as a result of a loosened plug. Just make sure the new ones are properly torqued and you should be golden. I did the whole job with recommendations from the forum and had NO issues and did the whole job in about a hour.

Thanks for the insight- Sure enough, I had one coil that has a bit of brown when i pulled it out (the rest were looking great).... and sure enough, the spark plug from that one cylinder was looser than the others. I cleaned it up best i could (probably will replace that coil) and was sure to torque down the new plug as required... all other plugs were tight. This is the first change so i wonder how it got loose... had I not read your note, i would have been having a bit of a worry attack! lol

I changed mine a couple weeks ago. I used the IKBH20TT Denso plugs. Looked like it was the first time they were touched. The truck has 90k on it. The passenger side was easy peasy. The driver's side I really wished I had waited until I was at work with my good tools. Really could have used a longer extension as it would have been SO much faster. The truck ran noticeably better after the change.

SO YOU HAD REPLACED THE ORIGINAL DENSO fk20hbr8(PRESET AT 0.32) WITH IKBH20TT (PRESET AT 0.40 NEVER GAPPED IT DOWN TO 0.32?) AND IT RAN FINE?

I put in my VIN on toyotapartsdeal.com and ordered them through there. So there original toyota plugs for my Tacoma and they were pre gapped so I didn't change anything and it runs like a scalded dog when I want it too.
