Out of curiosity, I had a good friend of mine who has a shop give me a labor quote on swapping them out for me and he told me $200 so I might just have him do it. My weekend went from slow project weekend to busy... Would you guys pay 200 for it? Or after doing it yourself it's pretty easy? I'm mechanically incline, I just lack time lol

If I was short on time, I’d pay that. However, lots of people go well beyond 60k, so waiting until I had time would be better to me. It’s not all that difficult. I think it took me a a little over an hour.

I've seen a few videos, doesn't seem that bad, just mainly time consuming on the drivers side. I already have all the extensions and magnetic socket so im good to go...we'll see what happens this weekend...

Took me about 2 hours first time going slow, it's not hard just a PITA on the driverside, if you have a wobble socket a few extensions, and a sparkplug socket you'll be fine on a saturday morning. FWIW my engine runs a lot smoother and the mpgs have gone up about 1-1.5 since doing them, and that was at 68k, so I'd suggest just biting the bullet and doing it if you're near the suggested interval

I thought the Team Oil drop video was the most straightforward of the Youtubes I watched. As a fellow M/T-er we have a couple extra hoses and crap in the way on the DS, and it still went fine

Is $200 a friend rate or standard? Either way I think of that $200 towards mods, ammo, or 20% returns in my acorns account :bikewheelie:

I just always assumed its the "friend" rate since i know him pretty well. Out of curiousity i called the dealer and they wanted $600. And an indy shop wanted $350 for labor So i think his 200 is pretty reasonable and fair

Edit: Doesn't acorns charge a monthly fee?

    $3 month.

Ya $200 sounds like a deal, but I enjoy DIY projects, working with my hands and tools.
Acorns does charge $3 a month but that's nothing. It's less than a can of yerba ice tea or energy drink which people buy every single day (I don't at all). I love the spare change feature of using your cards.

Alright I found a couple of free hours today and decided to save the $200 and just do it myself. Took me about 2.5 hours but I took my time and took a lunch break with my 4 year old who was with me the entire time asking questions. Drivers side was a bit of a pain but once you get the hang of the first one in tight spaces it's not so bad. So I'll consider it time well spent and my little guy got to see what it's like working on an engine.

When I started the engine right after the idle was rough and and it was revving quite a bit. Shut it off after 30 seconds and remembered I forgot to connect the hose to the intake manifold... Reconnected and alls good again! Runs smooth and accelerates smoother (at least in my mind) will see how fuel mileage is this week

2 hours sounds about right. I've done mine twice. I don't know how the one guy said he could do it in a 1/2 hour. I like taking my time, so I don't screw something up.

I have the 4 cylinder engine. From what I can see (not many YouTubers out there with this engine; in fact, I only saw one), it looks MUCH easier than the 6cyl.

Does anyone have any info (videos preferably) showing how to do the spark plug replacements for the 4 cyl? I just want to confirm what I think - that it is really much easier than the 6cyl (particularly the 6cyl driver's side).

    I have a 2016 Tacoma SR5 4WD, 2.7L in case it matters.

I'm at 62k miles right now, I don't think I need to worry about it too much, but I think I'm getting close to where I need to do it.

Pretty sure Toyota has been using that motor since 2004. Truck has changed around the motor but the spark plugs are probably in the same location. I would just search “2TR-FE spark plugs change” and see what pops up! Good luck!
