I had an OR 6MT. The truck was absolutely beautiful and the interior was much nicer than the 2nd gen. The lack of low end torque of the 3.5 paired with the MT made it an unenjoyable experience for me. I performed the ADM, switched to better fluids in the trans which did make it a bit better but still not great. I wasn't going to dish out more money (ovtune) to improve the truck anymore. While some probably disagree, the stock performance of the 3.5 and 6MT is crap. CarMax offered me more than I paid for it so I decided to sell it. I wanted to love the truck, but at the end of the day I wasn't happy with the way it drove.

That stock tune is trash.

I can't blame you for trading considering the deal, but you were close to golden with the tune. It is crazy that a tune is needed for basic driveability though.

 

Fair enough. My taco is much quicker than my 4.0 ranger was, so im happy in that regard. Because of that, im easier to please i guess.

I never really had any issues with power or low end torque with the taco, or all this stumbling/hesitation that a lot of guys are talking about. Actually i think its quite fast and the 6spd is nice and smooth. Still running OEM fluid. My biggest complain is the dead pedal and the stupid high reverse(ranger was same). So i got 2WD LOW mod and VF tune to fix the dead pedal feel. I didnt flash my ECU but i just got the cable, so ill do it pretty soon. Im sure my truck will be perfect after that.

Im gonna keep her for a long time, so it made sense to me to spend a bit of extra money to make her perfect.

 

Did they fix any of these issues with the 20 or 21 models?

hahaha! I meant the ones the OP listed... fuel filter, vibrations and shifting issues.

 

gmc are the best, fun fact, toyota actually asked gm how to build a proper truck. Thats how the 3rd gen was born
