Gotcha, guarantee it’s a software thing and there will be a tsb to “fix” it. I wouldn’t worry about it. Toyota is watching these forums

Yea me too, except for the weekends when I am hauling stuff too big for the Maverick. I realized a long time ago there is no perfect vehicle. I got a Tundra, it is nice, it is long and I use it for what it is designed a few days every week. The rest of the time I could drive a Maverick lol.

Did you drive a 2017 until you bought the 2024?

1-2 has always been a more noticeable shift in my experience with driving many different Toyotas with an 8-speed transmission.

C'mon "not even remotely close the same truck"? You prove my point about the small number of malcontents posting about their 3rd Gen. Over time 3rd Gen will likely go down in history as one of the best Tacomas.

I’ve owned 5 3rd gens lol. Got crazy deals on them so traded often. I should rephrase I’m not hating on the 3rd gen . Some people love them and I am overly anal with my vehicles. They just had way too many quirks for me and 2 out of the 5 had major issues right off the bat. I’m just over that platform and the 4th gen fits my expectations much better.

Correct the 4th gen is way way more refined and technology is way way better, the power delivery is 10x better

Turd gen is on the podium of "best Tacomas" in history because there's only been three up til a couple months ago.

I had a 2022 TRD Sport 4x4 that was totaled in an accident (not my fault) on May3rd. I loved my 3rd gen Tacoma and was planning on keeping it forever because I just got it the way I wanted it with the engine tune, aftermarket subwoofer, amp and speakers (and was just getting ready to put a 2 inch lift on it). But she closed her eyes forever on May 3rd at 1035pm… luckily I have good insurance and with the “new vehicle replacement” policy that replaced my totaled vehicle with a new vehicle of the exact same model. So I got a 24 TRD Sport 4x4 and I gotta say it’s a better truck. It even rides 2” higher so I may not even lift this one. I’m averaging about 20mph on my first 1500 miles (I was averaging around 20.5-21 on the 22), and the power is plenty good to get out into traffic. The interior seats are better and don’t need the seat jackers, and there are a lot more safety features on the 24. Plus I like the “brake hold” I didn’t have on my 22 so I can sit at a light without my foot on the brake. The 14 inch screen is a lot nicer to deal with too. I even think the engine sounds better than it did on my 22 (6 cylinder). I know a lot of people have complaints about it but in my opinion it’s a better truck all the way around

Technology is the reason why it’s so expensive . It’s also why every brand is so expensive . Just remember the more tech… the more that could go wrong down the road . There are things that are needed, there are things that are nice , and there are things that we don’t need .
The more we push for all this stuff the higher the prices will go . I sometimes think and pay attention to what I actually use as far as tech in my truck and then I think is that really important and it turns out it’s not . Even things like a power seat which I don’t have . I bought my truck in 2019, got in it to drive home , put my seat in a comfortable spot , and guess what 4-1/2 years later it’s in the same spot . All the lane control stuff I turned off , auto lock I Turned off , cruise control I used once just to see that it worked . Way to much traffic here . Back up camera I don’t even look at . It’s nice but I’m so old school I forget it’s there. Crawl control … ask me how many times I used that . I just think things are out of control with cars in general. Don’t misunderstand, the 24 Tacoma does look to be a better truck for lots of things, but in the end of the day it’s a pick up truck not a luxury car , so where does it end .

Strange, I have had three different third gens and not one had a rough idle or any vibrations at all. Yea the third gen likes to shift at times, but the later ones are much better. That hard shift could become a problem down the road. Good luck.

I had to upgrade from my 3rd gen. I was initially looking for another 3rd gen but the price difference between a used 3rd gen with less then 20k miles and a new 4th gen were only a few thousand dollars. I have zero regrets about upgrading. It’s a night and day difference between the 3rd and 4th gen. Ride quality, interior, technology are all drastically improved over the 3rd gen.

I hope to upgrade to a 4th Gen before rolling 200K miles in about five years. By then I am hopeful that there will be multiple PHEV options available. No more ICE-only vehicles for me.
