Thanks, yeah the brocelona with black accents looks pretty awesome. It's different than the 2nd gen Barcelona, has more red and metallic.

I don't know, I have a feeling the owner of that truck is here on TW, and reading all of our comments, and is yet to come out and own up.

Well not to throw any fuel on the fire here but don't trucks pull more than they weigh every single day? I mean, I know a big 5th wheel can easily weigh 11-12K. Do you think that this guy feels it when he has a cross wind?

And don't even start talking about 18 wheelers! They are rated and tow insane weight every single day on every highway around the world

Hey Rob! Without a doubt he definitely feels it but 5th wheel campers and semi's are a lot more stable than a hitch mounted camper in regards to cross winds.

"Own up" to what? It's not obvious that this was some massive driver error, and he doesn't owe any of us an explanation or apology anyway. You're from Cali, I'm sure you've seen what those surprise wind gusts do to trailers. I'd hate towing anything out there.

True but the point I was trying to make is was that it's not necessarily the weight but how it distributed. Trust me no manufacturer is going to say that their truck can handle a certain amount of weight when it just can't. That opens the door for any Tom, Dick or Harry lawyer to just bleed them dry. The truck can handle it - IF PROPER LOADED. Maybe their was a problem with the load? I know with the picture I posted earlier in the thread there should not have been any problem with the Taco pulling it but it still ended up with the camper on it's side. Maybe a tire blew, maybe a crosswind, maybe the weight not distributed correctly but whatever it was it was an accident. I'm sure neither one of them planned it that way. Lol

From Chevy to Toyota some of the most unsafe people on the road are the ones towing trailers.

If one thinks people are cheap skates when it comes to servicing cars, try trailers.

 I still don't understand why drivers don't slow down and let things like that happen away from them. This especially when the driver clearly swerved to avoid a collision as it initially passes them.

I think the semi was slowing down. The SUV surley was as he was losing control and the semi was still getting distance. Watch the pattern of the white lines and they slow down a lot form the beginning to when the SUV really starts losing it. I'd say it's best to let off the gas and cautiously slow rather than slam the breaks and potentially cause more problems for whoever is behind you.

^^^Driver of SUV is a bonehead for passing the semi. I betcha the semi was going fast enough for the SUV driver needed to go. Plus it seems like to big a trailer for what he is rated to pull.

On a side note, I know some of you think the Tacoma should not tow 80% of its tow rating safely but I'm certian it can if the truck and trailer are set up right and the driver isn't a bonehead.

This thread has got to be nominated for "Most Oblivious and Uninformed Commentary Ever" award.
From the 1,001 guesses on what happened to the people thinking the tow rating is a marketing gimmick to still others offering terrible towing advice!

Now, you read this thread and realize these same people are offering advice in other threads too? smh

This was close to max weight (est. 6200 with trailer), and no load distributing hitch. Trailer has good brakes though and I had a controller. Also load was well balanced (this is critical).

    IMG_20170702_192843.jpg

Was it heavy? Yeah it was heavy. Getting the truck moving was a chore. Pulled it around 60 mph for 15 miles. Would I do it on a long haul? Yep. If I needed to and it was only option. Wouldn't think twice about it.

Doable? Yes. Dangerous? Nope. Not at all. Drive for your conditions. Same rules apply no matter what you are doing. But if you don't adapt for towing, you are asking for trouble.

Has nothing to do with the truck.

Have towed my camper a dozen times this year with no issues. She weighs in at 4,200lbs dry, probably around 4,700lbs loaded. Tacoma tows it great! Not to say anything can happen but you have to be cautious and careful when towing, with any vehicle.

Photo taken today, 160 mile trip north for the weekend.
