Hi everyone, I recently upgraded by '05 for '16 DC TRD Sport. Due to my location, I run separate summer and winter wheels/tires. I had been thinking of purchasing some Schrader EZSensors and cloning the OEM TPMS sensors so that both sets of wheels would have the same TPMS sensor ID numbers and the ECU would think they are the same. This works on 2nd Gen. I was told by a local "upscale" tire shop (just imagine a tire shop with a latte machine) that the 3rd Gens do not "play nice" with aftermarket TPMS sensors and my only option is to get a second set of OEM Toyota sensors, which of course are not programmable and hence can't be used to clone my first set of sensors. Does anyone know whether this is true? I was also told that the Atec Quickset will not work for communicating TPMS data with the 3rd Gen ECU. The tire shop said their TPMS tools are not working with 3rd Gen and they believe the 3rd Gen TPMS has been locked down so that only Toyota dealers can do programming. Say it ain't so!

Not true on your last sentence.

I was able to purchase a set of OEM sensors, and my local Discount Tire had no problems programming them to my truck.

Thank you. So we have confirmation that someone other than a dealership can marry OE Toyota sensors to the truck's ECU. Now let's see if the truck ECU will play nice with non-OE aftermarket programmable sensors. That would be the big money/time saver.
