The market has spoken: Carmax increased the offer on my 2023 TRD OR DCAT (poverty trim) from $38600 to $40400. Pretty soon, clean late model 3Gs are going to be worth more than new 4Gs.

7800 miles. I paid $36400 for it 12 months ago. MSRP was $40400, so basically a used car dealer is offering me MSRP on a year old trade in.

I don't think that is what is going on. The price of the 4G has shifted over the range over. It is bringing the price of the 3G with it. Now is the time to trade in.

That’s a stout offer, even for Carmax. They do go apeshit over baby miles.

$42,998/$43,998 is what they seem to be asking.

Seems like they’re betting on the 2024 rolling out extra slow and/or lots of bugs to be worked out.

Great time to sell if you don’t need to replace!

I just traded my Limited 2020 4X4 with snug top and amp lift power step with about 80000 miles on it and got $32000 for trade in.

2016 with 212,000+ miles on it I got $17,500. the mileage really hurt with value but still was a decent deal for trade in for the 4g

I ended up taking another dealer's match on the $40,400 Carmax offer. Traded it in for a heavily discounted new Crosstrek (I know, I know) and a $14K check.

My 2023 Tacoma is now on the dealer's lot for $44K. Somebody will probably buy it, officially making a used 3G TRD OR more expensive than a discounted 4G. I guess it is still a cheaper way to get a power seat and a rear slider. :)

Any issues with the 3G over 212K ?

2022 OR with 5,200 miles. MT, came with whichever package includes the moon roof, and the truck came with the hard tonneau cover. Carmax offer is $45K+ which is what I paid pre-tax and registration. sale at MSRP was not common at the time so I had to pay a bit over.

I was so hoping the new 4runner would have an MT option. Trade in value on the taco would have been a big plus if it did. But 4-runner auto is the only option so Taco it is for a few years.

I'm in AZ ... lots of Tacomas around here so probably wouldn't be difficult to sell.

Exactly. Each generation gets a little further from the things people liked about Toyota (simple, reliable, high value), and therefore, the price climbs on the previous generation when the new dog shit comes out. A year from now, people will be searching for 5G 4Runners.

Just got an offer from CarMax for my 22 OR DC MT with 7.3k miles. No packages. $42k. In Utah and paid $43.3 OTD two years ago. I’ve got 7 days….hmmmm.

I’m sure CarMax thinks of this and keeps track of VIN offers for vehicles, but what’s stopping someone from putting in an offer in their region and elsewhere where the market is hotter.
If I can get $42,500 in Denver versus $40,000 here, it’s worth the day drive plus $300 plane ticket to net $2,000 after expenses no?

To me its not. That's my time and it's worth more than that to save a couple grand

I’d take that money and run with it. So much better value out there in the car market.
