I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
If you not doing this on level place, add half a qt. after you checked fluid level.

Thanks for all the information on how to check the fluid level. My truck vin starts with 3, has the tow package, and was just a little over 1/2 quart low.

I have lost all confidence in Toyota manufacturing, hope they never produce aircraft.

Checked my ATF a couple a weeks ago, nearly a full quart low.
    Cost $11 and busted knuckels

Early today checked my differential, one full quart low! What kind of BS is Toyota feeding us.
This is real bad since the diff capacity is much less than the transmission.

My Truck 2016 Taco TRD Sport ACLB 2wd.
For the record I still like the truck, but wish to have kept my 2012 another year until all this issues are resolved.

I had my truck at dealer this morning for a check. He checked it twice. Let it reach temps checked and then cooled and reached temp and checked again. My truck ended up being just shy of 2qts low.

Are you guys checking while it's running, or are you waiting until the "D" comes on steady when temp is reached and then shutting it off and then checking. I know most auto trans you check running, just confirming. Pretty sure you have to keep it running.

    You are correct .
It,s a proven fact that checking the fluid with the Techstream is only part of the check level process and not accurate at all . Technicians must do a manual level check by removing the overflow plug when in temp mode
If all they did was connect the techstream and nothing else , I am willing to bet money you are still low on fluid

Unfortunately, I checked my transmission fluid and added 1/2 quart. I did not have the shop do this so I suspect I am out of luck in regards to extended warranty. No regrets because I know for sure it is correct.

My paperwork ONLY stated, checked with tech stream, no idea what else
they did or if they went further, I'm going to have to put together a step by step
and check this myself for peace of mind or I'll never stop thinking about it.

I have been monitoring this thread since it was started since I was also curious how to check the ATF.

I have recently encountered shifting issues with my '16 Taco at approximately 4,000 miles so I called Toyota's national assistance number to ascertain whether or not they had a fix for this issue (I've also recently encountered the trip meters and fuel averages automatically resetting). The national customer service representative I spoke with claimed the automatic information reset was not a known issue for Toyota, but the shifting issue was known, and I was provided a TSB of T-SB-0079-15 as the fix for this problem (she explained this was a refresh of the ECU). I was able to get my truck into the dealership the same day I called for an appointment (this all occurred yesterday). They had my truck for several hours (I had to wait on the truck. There coffee was not very good :( ) when the tech manager finally came and explained what they had found and done. He explained it was a good news/bad news situation. The bad news was T-SB-0079-15 was only applicable to 4-cylinder Tacomas, but the good news was his tech observed the shift issue I took the truck in for, AND they rotated my tires. It was explained to me I would have to live with the shifting issues until Toyota came up with a fix . That was yesterday. Today I once again called the Toyota national assistance number and asked why they provided me with a TSB that wasn't even applicable to my truck. Toyota's "fix" is that they are going to "direct" the dealership to once again address my truck's shifting issues. My guess is that the dealership will check the ATF level. I actually am hoping it is low, to explain the shifting issue, otherwise I may just have a f###ed up transmission.

I'm not an expert on Transmissions, but this whole deal sounds like the main problem is low fluids. This incredible runaround by Corporate and Dealerships is just flat bizarre. It shouldn't be rocket science for a mechanic to top off the fluid. It seems like that would be a lot more cost effective than letting a lot of new transmissions fry.

And this has been happening for one hell of a long time .
I am not positive how Aisn Seiki gets their transmissions back after a warranty failure , but I can guarantee in the past 4 years ,99 percent of those failures were caused by a low fluid condition . I am sure they are aware of the issue by now .
Maybe it will take another 4 years before they do anything to rectify the problem ?
Phone numbers are listed within the link below .

I think it has something to do with the death of common sense gearcruncher. Everything today takes committee's, "think" tanks, charts, graphs, meetings, studies, politics, Etc. All before a decision is made like, hey these tranny's don't have enough fluid in them.
